1 Peter 5:8 KJV  “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

Life can feel heavy when we remember past mistakes, failures, or painful seasons. Many people replay old memories and wonder, What if I had done things differently?

The Bible reminds believers to stay alert and strong because life includes spiritual battles and real struggles.

1 Peter 5:8–11 (KJV) teaches that we must be watchful because the enemy looks for ways to discourage and weaken people.

Fear, shame, regret, and guilt are often tools used to pull our minds backward. But Scripture gives hope. God promises that after hardship, He will strengthen and establish us.

The message is simple: Don’t look back—God is leading you forward.

When people look backward too long, they lose energy for the future. The past cannot be changed, but the future can be shaped by faith, obedience, and trust in God. The Bible repeatedly shows that God calls people forward, not backward.  God wants people to resist discouragement and stay firm in faith.

The story of Lot’s wife gives a powerful warning about the danger of looking back with longing when God is leading us forward.

When God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, He showed mercy to Lot and his family by sending angels to rescue them. The command was clear and urgent:

Genesis 19:17 (KJV) “And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.”

God was not only rescuing them from danger—He was giving them a new beginning. Their safety depended on trusting God’s direction and moving forward in obedience.

But as they fled, Lot’s wife looked back.

Genesis 19:26 (KJV)  “But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.”

Her action was more than a quick glance. It showed a heart still tied to what God had called her to leave behind. The past still had her attention, even while God was leading her to safety.

Jesus later used this moment as a warning for future believers.

Luke 17:32–33 (KJV)
“Remember Lot’s wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.”

This shows that the lesson is not just historical—it is spiritual. Looking back with attachment to old ways, old habits, or old environments can stop forward progress with God.

Another verse gives the same message in a hopeful way:

Isaiah 43:18–19 (KJV)
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing…”

God often calls people into new seasons, new growth, and new freedom. But moving forward requires letting go of what is behind.

Lot’s wife reminds us that God rescues us to move us forward, not to keep us tied to the past.

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark…”

This verse shows a healthy mindset: learn from the past but do not live in it.

Hard seasons are not the end of the story. God promises growth after difficulty.

Encourage yourself day 4

alt tag: #Encourage yourself

1 Peter 5:10 (KJV)
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”

Pain is temporary, but God’s strengthening is lasting.

Encouragement:
• Resist fear and discouragement.
• Remember others face struggles too.
• Trust that God is building strength through trials.
• Keep moving forward in faith.

The direction of your life is ahead, not behind. God is still working, still guiding, and still strengthening those who trust Him.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-109That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-65Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
