Why Prayer Is Essential for Mental Stability. Main Scripture (KJV): Prayer petitions, God in Jesus Christ, the righteous judge to make you blameless of all sins in order to be supernaturally defended against spiritual enemies and their attacks, unholy bloodline defects, and accusation (spelled with a ‘c’, ac-cu-sa-tion) is a statement, claim or charge asserting that someone has committed a wrongdoing, illegal act or immoral behavior.
-
1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV— “Pray without ceasing.” When we do not pray or ask for forgiveness of sins. God will give you over to your own will and ways. Your protection will be gone. Romans 1:28 KJV “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;”
-
A reprobate mind refers to a state of moral depravity and spiritual abandonment where, after consistently rejecting God, individuals are left to their own corrupt, deceitful, and worthless ways. A reprobate mind is most often a result of unrepented sin. The consequences of unrepented sins signifies a mind void of a conscience. A mind that has justification of sin and an inability to discern right from wrong.

Note: it’s important to connect communion and prayer. Communion declares union with Christ, and prayer activates that union daily. See yesterday’s post on Communion.
What the Research Says
Research is not the Bible. However, it can support what believers have believed for a long time: when people have no spiritual support, distress can increase.
Depression, worry, and hopelessness
-
A large review of studies reports that greater religiosity/spirituality is often linked with lower depression symptoms, though results can vary depending on measures and context.
-
A study of older adults in mental health settings found significant relationships between prayer/meditation and both depression and hopelessness severity (showing how closely these can be connected in treatment populations).
-
A major multi-cohort study found religious service attendance was inversely associated with psychological distress outcomes: hopelessness (meaning: more attendance, less hopelessness on average).
- Around 1 in 10 of us hear voices that other people don’t hear. Source: Retrieved from the internet on 1/25/2026 Rethink Mental Health.
Hearing voices and feeling attacked
Science does not prove that “not praying causes voices.” Voices can come from many causes (stress, trauma, sleep issues, medical or psychiatric conditions). But research does show that:
-
Hearing voices (auditory verbal hallucinations) is reported by a meaningful minority of people across a lifetime (example: 7.3% lifetime prevalence in one national survey sample).
📢 Biblical counseling note: Some people describe these experiences as “spiritual attack” or “oppression.” The Bible teaches that spiritual warfare is real (Ephesians 6). At the same time, when voices are frequent, frightening, or disruptive, it is wise to seek medical and mental health evaluation while also praying—because God can use both spiritual and practical help.

Why Prayer Is Essential
Prayer is essential because prayer is not only communication with God—it is a legal appeal to heaven. Through prayer, believers come before God in Jesus Christ, the righteous Judge, to be declared blameless, forgiven, and spiritually defended in heaven and on earth.
1 John 2:1 (KJV) “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:”
Prayer places the believer under Christ’s advocacy. Without prayer, the mind is left exposed to god giving a reprobate mind, accusation, fear, and spiritual harassment. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from sin so that Satan has no legal rights to our lives. Connection to God restored because Peace, clarity, and wisdom are in Jesus Christ.
In 1 John 2:1 (KJV), Jesus acts as our advocate with the Father, proclaiming that because he is the “righteous judge” and the “propitiation” {atoning sacrifice} for our sins, Jesus testifies to his completed work, defending us against accusations by showing he has paid the full penalty.
An advocate speaks for you in court. Prayer is how you come before the Judge with the Advocate.
And when God clears you, the enemy’s case collapses:
-
Accusations lose power
-
Fear loses grip
-
Heaviness lifts
-
Confusion starts to break

God Saved Those Who Bowed Only to Him
The first commandment, found in Exodus 20:3, is You shall have no other God before me. Jesus later summarized this by saying the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. We worship God, The Father, through Jesus Christ’s name (the blood sacrifice for our sins – the only sacrifice needed to be given one-time for man and forever. Believers do not sacrifice animals and items, etc.) Animals are not higher than Jesus Christ.
You also asked for the powerful truth about God preserving the faithful who refused idols.
In Elijah’s day, God said He had reserved people who did not bow to Baal ( A false God who is a demon):
1 Kings 19:18 (KJV)
“…all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.”
That means:
-
They didn’t agree with idols. They did not honor false power.
-
They did not “kiss” what God hated.
Spiritual meaning: bowing is agreement. Kissing in a religious or holy ritual is loyalty.

How to Pray a Legal Petition Before the Righteous Judge
The Bible presents God as Judge—not to condemn believers, but to clear them.
Isaiah 54:17 (KJV)
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.”
Prayer is how believers present their case:
We pray to the Father in Jesus Christ’s name. God is everywhere, so you can pray from any position-sitting, standing, laying, kneeling, etc. However, the holiest way is to petition the divine on your knees in submission or to lay on your stomach flat (bed) and/or with hands raised. Pray with your eyes open. Jesus and the disciples prayed often outside as they traveled on foot and did not always have a house or bed available.
Jesus set examples for us on how to pray. The most important are submission, faith, love, spirit, and truth. You must believe He is Able and willing as you approach the throne of Grace in your time of need for help. You are to pray to the Father in Jesus’s name to be presented blameless before God.
Meaning to pray with faith in His authority and mediation, not just as a formality, so that the Father is glorified and answers prayers in a way that aligns with His will. It signifies coming to God through Jesus, acknowledging His righteousness and sacrifice, and trusting He intercedes for you.
John 14:13 KJV 13And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If ye shall ask any thing in my name (Jesus), I will do it.
When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray in
Matthew 6:6 KJV, he instructed them 5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9After this manner, pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Why Kneeling Matters
Kneeling does not make prayer “more saved.” Kneeling is a Biblical pattern of humility, surrender, and agreement. It helps the body “line up” with the soul.
Solomon: Kneeling and hands lifted
1 Kings 8:54 (KJV)
“…he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.”
That is posture preaching a message: “God is higher than me, and I trust Him.”
Worship is bowing
Psalm 95:6 (KJV)
“O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.”
Stephen: Kneeling under pressure
Acts 7:60 (KJV)
“And he kneeled down… Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.”
Kneeling is strength, showing spiritual stability even in danger. Every knee will bow to Jesus.
Philippians 2:10 (KJV)
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…”
So when believers kneel, they are practicing humble submission to Go and acceptance of his authority.
Other positions of prayer
✔️Lifting or stretching out one’s hands and standing. 1 Timothy 2:8 KJV “I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.”
✔️ Praying with open eyes. Psalm 121:1 KJV says, “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.”
✔️Sitting to pray and fast. Judges 20:26-27 KJV. 26 Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. 27 And the children of Israel enquired of the LORD, (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
✔️ Lying on your bed. Psalms 4:4 KJV “Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.”
✔️ Prostrate on your face. Matthew 26:39 KJV “And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
Private prayer still matters
Matthew 6:6 (KJV)
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret…”
It’s not just public kneeling. It’s also kneeling in secret.
Prayer Declares Blamelessness Through Christ
Prayer does not deny sin— Prayer with repentance applies forgiveness.
Colossians 1:22 (KJV) “In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: Believers are presented spot less before the righteous judge by the blood of Jesus, that’s why we pray in his name.
Without prayer:
-
Sin lingers because you did not ask for forgiveness
-
Shame increases because you can’t overcome spiritual attacks if you have unrepented sin or unforgiven sin.
-
The mind stays trapped in self-judgment. A reproached mind. You become capable of anything. Without prayer and repentance, your ways become your only moral standards.

The Attacks, Accusations, and Sins Prayer Helps You Fight
When people stop praying and stop taking communion seriously, spiritual awareness weakens. Then these attacks often grow louder:
Common spiritual attacks and accusations
-
“God left you.”
-
“You’re not forgiven.”
-
“You’re dirty, ruined, rejected.”
-
“You can’t change.”
- Kill someone
-
“You’re going to die / go crazy.”
-
“No one loves you.”
-
“Stop praying—it won’t work.”
-
“God is punishing you.”
-
sudden fear, dread, panic
-
heaviness, mental fog, confusion
-
nightmares and night terror
-
intrusive thoughts and blasphemous thoughts
-
temptation spikes after spiritual progress
-
Mental torment
-
Spiritual confusion
-
Night disturbances
-
Emotional heaviness
-
Sudden fear or dread
Ephesians 6:18 (KJV) teaches that prayer activates the armor of God. Without prayer, the armor is worn—but not engaged.
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” Ephesians 6:18 (KJV)
-
Romans 8:33(KJV) asks, 33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
Prayer with forgiveness brings these accusations into the light—and silences them.

Prayer and Bloodline Defects
Scripture teaches that sin patterns can travel through family lines—but redemption is stronger.
Galatians 3:13 (KJV) declares that Christ redeemed believers from the curse of the law.
Through prayer, believers:
-
Renounce inherited sins
-
Break ungodly patterns
-
Reject unholy agreements
-
Claim new identity in Christ
- Break soul ties not of God.
Prayer applies the blood of Jesus to areas the enemy tries to revisit.
Communion and Prayer Work Together
Communion declares:
Christ lives in me.
Prayer in Jesus’s name enforces: Therefore, I am defended, forgiven, and made whole.
Philippians 4:6–7 (KJV) explains that prayer guards the heart and mind with God’s peace.
Avoiding communion weakens resurrection awareness. Avoiding prayer weakens mental stability.
Together, they keep believers clear-minded, protected, and spiritually alert.

Final Encouragement
Prayer petitions God in Jesus Christ—the righteous Judge—to:
-
Forgive sin
-
Silence accusations
-
Heal the mind
-
Break bloodline bondage
-
Defend against spiritual enemies
- Give spiritual and earthly gifts.
Communion reminds believers who they are. Prayer ensures they live like it.
Romans 8:1 KJV “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

Reflection Question:
What accusation or mental burden do you need to bring before the righteous Judge in prayer today?
Action Step:
Set a prayer time today to pray on your knees and ask Jesus to cleanse you of all your sins so you are blameless before your accusers, receive victory in your trials. The verdict is favorable to you in heaven and on earth. Teach your children how to confess and repent sins.
Father, righteous Judge,
I ask You to forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Through Jesus Christ, make me blameless. Let every sinful accusation against me be silenced by the blood of Christ.
Defend me from spiritual enemies, trials, and attacks—especially attacks on my mind, for the mind is the battlefield. Guard my health, finances, and family. Release me from every unholy pattern in my family bloodline, and break all unholy soul ties and curses.
Forgive me for any curses, negative words, or actions I have spoken or done outside of Your will—whether known or unknown.
Open the eyes of my understanding. Fill me with wisdom and revelation through Your Holy Spirit.
Give me a teachable, correctable, and righteous spirit, and remove any spirit of rebellion. Create in me a clean heart. Grant me discernment of spirits and truth, so that I may not be deceived, and so that I may worship You in spirit and in truth, according to Your will.
May Your favorable verdict stand in heaven and be established on earth, O righteous Judge.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.
This prayer directly matches the spirit of:
-
Ephesians 1:3 KJV (spiritual blessings) “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:”
-
Ephesians 1:16–19 KJV (enlightened understanding, hope, power) 16Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; 17That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
