Let God pull out the root so you can heal and grow.

The Pain Point: Can’t Let Go of the Past
You’ve been wronged. You’ve been overlooked. You’ve been stolen from. You’ve been wounded by people who should have protected or supported you. The pain is real—and so is the bitterness growing from it. What started as one bad moment has taken root in your heart. You might smile in public, but deep inside, there’s a wall between you and peace. Bitterness not only locks out others—it locks you in.

Let’s be honest—sometimes we’re tempted to pray from a place of anger instead of love. But be warned: don’t pray people to the devil or condemn them, thinking you’re pushing them into repentance, when in truth, you’re seeking revenge. God is not fooled.

Unless you are 100% free from sin—including sexual sin outside of marriage like the Apostle Paul was—you’re putting yourself in a dangerous position. Judging others while ignoring your own faults can invite judgment right back on you.  Romans 3:23 KJV “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

If someone offends you, God didn’t say curse them—He said pray for them (Matthew 5:44 KJV). Love your enemies. Bless those that curse you. That’s how your faith grows. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Get off the milk and onto the meat of the Word. Then God can truly use you.

Whenever someone really angers me, I always picture Jesus on the cross. He was beaten, mocked, and stripped—while soldiers gambled for His clothes. And yet, through His pain, He said:
“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” — Luke 23:34 KJV

Jesus set the ultimate example of forgiveness. He didn’t curse them. He didn’t retaliate. He is love, grace, and truth. I’m not Jesus—but by His Spirit, I’ve forgiven when I didn’t have the strength to do it on my own.

It wasn’t easy—far from it. But now, looking back, I’m thankful I didn’t seek revenge. God handled things in ways I never could. That old saying is still true: What goes around comes around. And these days, it seems to come around a lot faster.

God lets people know when they’re being corrected, and why. His purpose isn’t destruction—it’s repentance. He doesn’t play favorites. Everyone reaps what they sow.

It gives me peace knowing that God understands how people really are. Even as Jesus was dying, He knew they didn’t fully understand what they were doing. Still, He chose mercy. He chose love.

If you want someone to repent, give them to God—not to the devil. Don’t wish harm on them. That’s not righteousness—that’s witchcraft.
It’s the goodness of God that leads to repentance. — Romans 2:4 KJV

If you want someone to repentent, give them to God not the devil or wish bad things happen to them -that is witchcraft.  It is the goodness of God that leads to repentance

  • Romans 2:4 KJV  “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”

  • Romans 12:20 KJV: “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.”  God will do that not you.
  •  Matthew 10:16 (KJV)   “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”
  • Romans 8:1 KJV There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
  • Matthew 7:1 KJV  1Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

  • Matthew 5:44 KJV  “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;”(The reason for this is because you will be innocence when Jesus puts them on trial-which brings repentance. He can protect you as he seeks revenge for you. The devil will not be able to take you to trial. It is your protection.  However, he did nto say you could not protect yourself by removing your presence especiallty, if you are in physical danger. At one point, you have to remove yourself from people who are trying to kill you – physically or spiritually.  Give it to God.

  • Revenge undermines the very thing God wants for all his children, even the ones behaving badly, Jesus died for forgiveness of sin.  Forgiveness is the will of God. He handles everything else.

  • Never condemn a person but you are allowed to condemn words and curses so they do not have root in your life.

  • Matthew 22: 37-40 KJV 37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
  • Ephesians 2:8 KJV  “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”

  • Matthew 12: 36-37 KJV   36But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
  • Isaiah 54:17 KJV  “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

  • Isaiah 26:3 KJV  “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”  Trust God, make a plan and keep it moving. The sweetest revenge is success.

Don’t Be Quick to Judge—You May Not Know the Whole Story

It’s important to remember that things are not always what they seem. Sometimes, we believe we fully understand a situation—when we really don’t.

I once saw an interview with a man who shared a powerful testimony. His sister had gone missing and was later found dead. He was convinced her boyfriend was the killer. They had a troubled relationship. The boyfriend had hit her before and even threatened her life in a moment of rage.

Fueled by grief and anger, the brother set out to take justice into his own hands. He went looking for the boyfriend with the intention to kill him. But the man wasn’t home—and he couldn’t find him anywhere.

Years passed. Ten years later, the truth finally came out. His sister had been kidnapped by a serial rapist and murderer while walking home from the store. The boyfriend hadn’t been involved at all.

The man was filled with relief that he hadn’t found and killed an innocent person. Had he gone through with his plan, he would’ve spent the rest of his life in prison. Worse, he would have condemned someone unjustly.

This is exactly why the Bible warns us not to judge or condemn others (Luke 6:37 KJV). We are called to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16 KJV). You may think someone cheated you in a business deal, betrayed you, or mistreated you—but you might not see the full picture.

Let God be the judge. He sees everything. We don’t.

Proverbs 21:2 KJV  “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.”

The Solution: Uproot Bitterness Before It Grows Deeper
Hebrews 12:15 KJV warns us: bitterness is like a hidden root. You don’t always see it right away, but it grows under the surface, feeding off hurt and spreading into every part of your life—your joy, relationships, and even your prayers.

But there’s good news: God doesn’t just treat symptoms—He heals roots. When we bring our pain honestly before Him, He can dig deep, pull up what doesn’t belong, and plant something better in its place: peace.

Isaiah 53:5  KJV  “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

Healing may not be instant, but it is possible. Forgiveness is the shovel. Prayer is the watering. God’s Word is the light.

Takeaway: Bitterness Feeds Pain—But Forgiveness Feeds Freedom
Bitterness tricks you into believing you’re protecting yourself. But what you’re really doing is replaying pain on a loop. God offers a way out. Not by pretending it didn’t happen, but by trusting Him to redeem it.

You can heal. You can grow. You can be free.
But first—you have to let it go.

Reflection Question:
What root of bitterness have you been watering that God is calling you to release?

A CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
