Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)  “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Many people struggle with relationships. They want to love others but feel drained, hurt, or disrespected. The Bible teaches both love and wisdom.

Healthy boundaries protect peace and relationships.  God wants people to guard their hearts.

What Boundaries Look Like

Boundaries can include:
• Saying no without guilt
• Limiting time with harmful people
• Speaking truth with kindness
• Protecting emotional health

Matthew 5:37 (KJV)
But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Clear communication builds healthy relationships.

Bible Story – Jesus Sets Boundaries

Jesus loved people deeply, yet He often stepped away to pray and rest. In Luke 5:16, He withdrew from crowds to spend time with God.

This story shows that even Jesus took time away from people to stay strong.

Luke 5  KJV shows a powerful pattern in the life of Jesus. Crowds followed Him everywhere. People wanted healing, answers, help, and miracles. His days were full of teaching, serving, and caring for others. Yet in the middle of this busy life, Scripture gives a quiet but important detail:

Luke 5:16 (KJV)
“And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.”

This verse is short, but the lesson is deep. Jesus loved people and served them constantly, yet He did not allow constant demands to replace time with God. He stepped away on purpose.

Earlier in the chapter, large crowds were gathering because of His miracles.

Luke 5:15 (KJV)
“But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed…”

Jesus had every reason to stay and keep working. People needed Him. They wanted Him. But He still withdrew to pray.

This shows that rest and quiet time with God are not selfish—they are necessary. If Jesus needed time away from people to stay spiritually strong, then we need it too.

Jesus also practiced this pattern in other places.

Mark 1:35 (KJV)
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out… and there prayed.”

He protected quiet time with God before the demands of the day began.

This teaches an important lesson about healthy boundaries. Loving people does not mean saying yes to every demand. Serving others does not mean neglecting spiritual strength. Time with God gives wisdom, peace, and renewed energy to love others well.

Without rest and prayer, people become overwhelmed, tired, and emotionally drained. Jesus showed that stepping away at times actually helps us serve better later.

The lesson is clear:
Time with God strengthens the heart so we can love people without losing peace.

Real-World Example

A woman felt overwhelmed by constant family demands. She began setting limits on her time and explaining them kindly. Her stress dropped, and relationships improved.

Loving Without Losing Peace

Boundaries are not selfish. They allow love to grow in a healthy way.

Love and wisdom must work together.
