Bible Story

Samson ignored warning signs with Delilah. Her charm led him into captivity. If he had protected his calling, he would have kept his strength.

Some relationships drain your energy, steal your peace, and disturb your walk with God. Jesus warned us that without clear spiritual boundaries, we end up giving our time, trust, and heart to people who do not value what God has placed inside us.

Matthew 7:6 (KJV)“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine.”

This is strong language, but the message is loving:  Protect what God has given you.

Your peace, your purpose, your joy, and your calling are pearls—valuable treasures from God. When you allow the wrong people too close, they can trample on your worth, mock your growth, and take advantage of your kindness. This is why setting boundaries is not unkind—it is wisdom.

Bible Example: Nehemiah

When Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem, outsiders came pretending to be friendly. But their goal was to distract, weaken, and stop the work of God. Nehemiah told them plainly:

“I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down.”
(Nehemiah 6:3 KJV)

He created a boundary—physically and spiritually. He refused to let toxic voices pull him off assignment. And because he stood firm, the wall was completed in record time. Boundaries protected his purpose.

Bible Example: Jesus Himself Set Boundaries

Even Jesus did not give everyone full access to His life.

  • He often withdrew to pray alone (Luke 5:16).

  • He did not trust everyone who followed Him (John 2:24).

  • He kept His closest circle small — Peter, James, and John (Mark 5:37).

Jesus walked in love, but He also walked in wisdom.

Why You Attract the Wrong People

When you lack boundaries, people with selfish motives see an open door. Proverbs teaches:

“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly.”
(Proverbs 18:24 KJV)

But “friendly” does not mean “available for misuse.”
God wants you to love others, but He also calls you to guard your heart:

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
(Proverbs 4:23 KJV)

If anyone continually drains your peace, mocks your faith, or uses your kindness, that is a sign—not to harden your heart but to set limits.

The Blessing of Boundaries

When you honor God with healthy limits:

  • He removes people who were only there to harm you.

  • He brings relationships that encourage, protect, and strengthen you.

  • He restores your clarity and peace.

Your life becomes quieter, calmer, and more aligned with His will.

Boundaries do not block blessings—they make room for them.
And when you stop giving your pearls to the wrong people, God sends the right ones.

Real-World Example

Tanya realized she kept dating people who drained her peace. When she prayed for discernment and stopped chasing validation, she met friends who respected her faith.

Reflection Question

Are you protecting your peace or giving it to people who don’t value it?
