Friendships are fragile. One angry moment can cause years of silence. Paul and Barnabas were friends and ministry partners—but they separated over a sharp disagreement.  God wants us to be peacemakers. Even if you’re right, peace is better than pride.

 

 

Scriptures:

Proverbs 29:22 KJV – ““An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.”

Proverbs 15:18 KJV  – ““A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.”

Romans 14:19  KJV – “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.”

Proverbs 22:24 KJV  “Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:”

 

Bible Story:
Paul and Barnabas argued about John Mark. They split and went separate ways, even though both loved the Lord.  Paul and Barnabas, two faithful servants of the Lord, experienced a sharp disagreement over whether to take John Mark with them on their missionary journey.

John Mark had previously left them during an earlier trip, and Paul felt he could not be relied upon, while Barnabas, wanting to give him another chance, insisted on including him (Acts 15:36–38, KJV). The Bible says, “And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other” (Acts 15:39, KJV).

As a result, Barnabas took John Mark and sailed to Cyprus, while Paul chose Silas and traveled through Syria and Cilicia. Though both continued serving God faithfully, their partnership ended over this dispute. This moment reminds us that even devoted believers can let strong emotions and disagreements separate them, which is why humility, grace, and forgiveness are essential to preserving unity in the body of Christ.

 

 

Real-World Example:
Two childhood friends stopped talking after a wedding disagreement. Years passed. One reached out, and they cried and forgave.
