Words have power. Angry words can hurt someone for years. The Bible tells us to be slow to speak and quick to listen. Once words are out, we can’t pull them back in. That’s why it’s better to pray before you speak. Kind words bring healing—angry words leave scars.

Scriptures to memorize:
Proverbs 15:1 KJV – “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”
James 3:6 KJV – “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”
Ephesians 04:27 KJV 24And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. 25Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27Neither give place to the devil.
Bible Story:
Job’s friends said wrong things about him during his suffering. God was not pleased with their careless words. When Job endured great suffering, losing his children, wealth, and health, his three friends—Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar—came to comfort him but ended up speaking falsely about his situation.
Instead of offering true encouragement, they accused Job of hidden sin, suggesting his suffering was punishment from God (Job 4:7–8; Job 8:6, KJV). Their words misrepresented God’s character and wrongly judged Job’s heart. In the end, God rebuked them, saying to Eliphaz, “My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath” (Job 42:7, KJV).
This account reminds us to be careful with our words during someone’s trial, speaking truth and compassion rather than judgment.
Real-World Example:
A mom yelled at her son in frustration and called him lazy. He cried. Later she apologized, but he remembered it for years. She now prays before correcting him.
I remember my mother, when my dauther was 1 year old told me in order to help my child channel anxiety or stress, simply say, it’s all right. I said, what’s all right? She answered anything. Those words seem to help. It worked on you and your sister when you two were upset. So, I said it often to my child especially on the ride home from school. Today at age 31 she responds with positivity or a sense of relief when I say “It’s alright”.
Reflection Question:
What words have you spoken in anger that need healing or forgiveness?

Romans 10:9-10 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
John 3:5-6 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
