Anger is a natural emotion, but when left unchecked, it can lead to devastating consequences. The Bible records the first murder in Genesis 4:1–16 (KJV), between two brothers—Cain and Abel. Both brought offerings to God, but Abel’s was accepted because it was from the firstborn of his flock and without blemish (Genesis 4:4), while Cain’s was rejected because it was not given with the right heart or quality (Genesis 4:5).

Instead of humbling himself and seeking God’s guidance, Cain became jealous and allowed anger to fester. God even warned him, saying, “Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? … and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door” (Genesis 4:6–7). Ignoring this warning, Cain lured Abel into the field and killed him.

That one act not only ended Abel’s life but also cursed Cain’s future, leading him into a lifetime of wandering and separation from God. This tragic story is a sobering reminder that anger must be addressed with prayer, humility, and self-control before it destroys both relationships and destinies.

Genesis 4: 9-11 KJV    9And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? 10And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground. 11And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;

When we hold on to anger, it doesn’t just hurt others—it hurts us too. It affects our decisions, our peace, and even how we treat those we love. Some people carry anger so long it ruins friendships, jobs, or marriages.

Real-World Example:
A man argued with his brother and didn’t speak to him for years. When his brother passed away, he carried that pain. He now teaches others to forgive quickly.

Reflection Question:
Is there someone you need to forgive before it’s too late?

A CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
