Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day)^[1] is one of the federal holidays in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Force.  It is observed on the last Monday of May.

Memorial Day—a day to honor those who gave their lives in service—comes from the words of Jesus Himself:

John 15:13 (KJV)     “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

This verse reminds us that the greatest kind of love is shown by those who are willing to sacrifice their lives for others—just like our soldiers did, and just like Jesus did for all mankind.
