Editor’s Note: Older American Month. In 1963, President John F. Kennedy designated May as National Older Americans Month to honor and celebrate the contributions of older adults. This milestone paved the way for the landmark Older Americans Act (OAA), signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965.
The OAA remains a cornerstone of federal policy for aging services, providing critical funding and support for a range of programs that promote health, independence, dignity, and community engagement for older adults, their families, and caregivers.
The theme for Older Americans Month 2025 is Flip the Script on Aging, which focuses on transforming how society perceives, talks about, and approaches aging. Individuals and communities are encouraged to challenge stereotypes and dispel misconceptions around getting older. #CelebrateOlderAmericans

📖 Bible Verse Lesson: The Power of the Cross on Your Lips
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” – Romans 10:9 KJV

Lesson: There is power in your words when you talk about Jesus. The Bible says if we speak with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved (Romans 10:9 KJV). The cross has power, and when we speak about it, we are sharing hope, healing, and eternal life.
The Bible also reminds us:
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” – Acts 4:12 KJV
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” – Matthew 28:18 KJV
“Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” – 1 Peter 1:16 KJV
“Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;” – Psalm 107:2 KJV
A Word for Older Adults:
Older adults are a treasure of wisdom, and God expects you to teach and encourage others. Your stories, your faith, and your walk with Jesus can light the way for younger people.
The Bible says, “That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.” – Titus 2:2 KJV
And for older women: ““That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,”” – Titus 2:4 KJV
Your lips can still speak life! You are still useful, still valuable, and still called to share Jesus.
Bible Story Example:
In Acts 16:25–34 KJV, Paul and Silas were in prison. They didn’t complain—they prayed and sang! God moved with an earthquake. A jailer believed and confessed Jesus with his mouth and was saved with his family. Words have power!
Real World Example:
Mr. Lee, a retired bus driver, started calling his grandkids weekly to pray with them and read a Bible verse. His words changed their attitudes and helped them come to Christ. Age doesn’t limit purpose. God uses every voice!
Reflection Question:
Are you using your voice to speak the name of Jesus, share your faith, and encourage the next generation?

A CALL TO SALVATION:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 10:9-10 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
John 3:5-6 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
