Have you ever heard the phrase, “A man is only as good as his word?” That truth is found in the Bible. Let’s be honest—there’s something refreshing about talking to someone whose words are honest and sincere, even when they’re speaking about hard things.

Colossians 4:6  KJV  “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

Last week, I reflected on some conversations I had and listened to a few of my favorite influencers on social media. Honestly, it seems like we’re all talking a bit too much these days—especially online, where many make a living just by talking.

Here’s the concern: much of the content isn’t rooted in truth. It’s often just gossip, exaggerations, or opinions shaped by trends instead of facts. Still, I truly enjoy when someone shares a testimony, motivation, or teaches a lesson that uplifts and educates others.

That’s the kind of speech we’ll be focusing on over the next two weeks—daily insights from God’s Word to heal train and bless our mouths.  A special two-week journey: “Healing – One Word at a Time.”

Unfortunately, the line between truth and lies is getting blurrier, especially in politics. Some news outlets in other countries have commented that America’s chaos seems encouraged—maybe so no one knows what to believe or challenge.  A lot of people claim its ok in the form of free speech. I love free speech but it is so bad, many people avoid social media and TV all together.  They say they cannot deal with it. Let’s talk about it.

This breakdown in healthy communication affects our families, schools, and churches. The solution? Each of us must take responsibility for our words-speak properly. We must seek God’s wisdom before we speak—and teach our children to do the same. Words can save or destroy lives. There truly is a time to speak and a time to be silent.

Recently, I saw someone online claim to be the successor of Jesus Christ—one day saying he was the anti-Christ, then taking it back and redefining everything. Let’s be clear: Jesus has no successor. The father of lies is Satan (John 8:44 KJV). This is manipulation, and the Bible already warned us about it.  Jesus silence demons.  We should too by not listening.

2 Corinthians 11: 13-15 KJV   ¹³For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. ¹⁴And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. ¹⁵Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. 

That’s why, when someone lies, it damages their credibility. It can affect promotions, relationships, and trust. Words have long-term consequences.

Some are now speaking poorly about the late Pope, with a tone that lacks basic respect—not just for him but for the millions of Catholics who loved and followed him. Agree or disagree, the man dedicated his life to the church. God sees rank and order, even in the spiritual realm.

If he went to heaven or hell—that is God’s business. We don’t know. What we do know is God is just. I’m not Catholic, but I admire how the Catholic Church has helped so many—especially through hospitals and programs like St. Jude, where families never see a bill. When I was 15, I worked at a Catholic summer camp. They accepted everyone and did so much for underprivileged kids.

Many say the Pope prayed for and healed people through God’s power. He was not just a ceremonial figure. So where is the respect?

Let’s remember what Jesus told Peter when he question Simon Peter because he had denied Jesus three times in John 21:22 KJV—“What is that to thee? Follow thou me.” Our focus should stay on faith and obedience, not on criticizing others or personal concerns.

John 21-23 KJV   ²¹Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? ²²Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. ²³Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

Another example is Miriam, Moses’ sister. She spoke against Moses for marrying an Ethiopian woman. God struck her with leprosy, asking, “Were you not afraid to speak against My servant?” Moses interceded for her, and God forgave her—but made her stay outside the camp for seven days (Numbers 12 KJV). This shows how seriously God takes our words about His servants.

God’s people aren’t perfect—we all sin. But if they are truly His, they are covered by the blood of Jesus. On the other hand, the Bible also warns us to stay away from false prophets. There’s a way to handle things, and the Word gives us that guidance.

If you’ve spoken out of turn or joined in gossip, don’t carry the guilt—repent. God is faithful. Just be honest with Him.

 1 John 1:9  KJV  “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Let’s make our words count for good. Let’s speak life, truth, and healing into our world.

The next two weeks, we will dive into short daily insights filled with God’s Word to heal, train, and bless our mouths!

Recently, I heard a testimony on social media that made me stop and pray. An ex-witch said she would start arguments so she could legally curse people based on the words they spoke in anger. Words open spiritual doors! Good or bad. God’s Word teaches this clearly.

We also see it every day:

• Families breaking apart over hurtful words.

• Friendships lost.

• Businesses ruined by false promises and lies.

• Children scarred by careless remarks.

• Even our relationship with God is affected by what we say and believe.

In a world where people speak hatefully, dishonestly, and wickedly, we are called to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength—and love others as ourselves. (Mark 12:30-31 KJV)

Remember:
Your words are on trial! Your mouth is the evidence.

Arguments bring judgment. Loose words lend Satan a foothold. 

Ephesians 4:26-27  KJV   ²⁶Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: ²⁷Neither give place to the devil.

We must choose life with our tongues!

• Stop opening doors to the enemy with careless talking.

• Heal old wounds caused by words.

• Build a life that honors God and loves others through what we speak.

Reflection Question:
👉 Are my words building up or tearing down the lives around me?

Action Step:
Speak one blessing today over yourself, your family, and someone who has hurt you. Go further say something nice everyday for the month of May.
