John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

In the Old Testament, the Israelites sacrificed lambs on Passover to remember how God saved them from slavery in Egypt (EXODUS- Parting of the Red Sea). But when Jesus came, He became the final Passover Lamb. His blood is the only sacrifice we will ever need to be saved and forgiven. This study will help us understand how Jesus gave His life on Passover, just as lambs were being prepared for sacrifice—and why that changes everything for us today.

Revelation 12:11 (KJV)  “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony…”

Jesus: The Lamb of God

John the Baptist called Jesus “the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29 KJV). During the Passover, Jewish families remembered how the blood of a lamb protected them when the angel of death passed over their homes in Egypt (Exodus 12:13 KJV). That lamb pointed to Jesus.

Exodus 12:13 KJV  “And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.”

On the very day of Passover, while people were bringing lambs to be sacrificed at the temple, Jesus was nailed to the cross. He took our place. Instead of sacrificing animals every year, Jesus—who never sinned—became the once-for-all sacrifice.

Hebrews 10:12  KJV  12But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

The Three Days Explained

  • Day 1 (Passover) – Jesus was crucified. At 3 p.m., He died—the same time the Passover lambs were usually killed.

  • Day 2 (The Sabbath) – Jesus’ body was in the tomb. This was a day of rest. It was also the time when Jewish people would reflect and remember God’s deliverance.

  • Day 3 (Resurrection/Easter Sunday) – Jesus rose from the dead, showing He had power over sin, death, and the grave. His resurrection means we are no longer separated from God.

Real World Example

Think about a courtroom. A person is guilty, and the punishment is death. But someone steps in and says, “I’ll take the punishment.” That’s what Jesus did for us. Now we are free—not because we’re perfect—but because He paid the price with His blood.

Bible Story Highlight

When the Israelites spread the lamb’s blood on their doorposts during the first Passover (Exodus 12), the angel of death passed over them. In the same way, when we believe in Jesus and accept His sacrifice, God’s judgment passes over us. Jesus is our protection.

Reflection Question:  What does it mean to you that Jesus chose to be the Lamb, so you could be free and connected to God again?

Final Thought:  Jesus didn’t just die—He fulfilled God’s plan. Because of His blood and our testimony of what He has done, we can overcome every evil. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God!

A CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
