Hello Truth Seekers,

Let’s talk about something real today—our hearts. As Christians, we know Jesus came to save us, but sometimes we let things sneak into our hearts that shouldn’t be there. Today, on Ash Wednesday, let’s take time to reflect with the Holy Spirit and do a heart check. First, a little history on Ash Wednesday and what it is.

Ash Wednesday is a holy day of prayer and fasting in many Western Christian denominations.  Ash Wednesday is observed by Catholics, Lutherans, Moravians, Anglicans, United Protestants, Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist and Nazarene traditions.

Ash Wednesday is traditionally observed with fasting and abstinence from meat in several Christian denominations.[5][6][7] It is the first day of Lent.

“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34 KJV)

The liturgy for Ash Wednesday thus contains the following “Invitation to Observe a Lenten Discipline” read by the presider:[38]

We begin this holy season by acknowledging our need for repentance and our need for the love and forgiveness shown to us in Jesus Christ. I invite you, therefore, in the name of Christ, to observe a Holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance, by prayer and fasting, by practicing works of love, and by reading and reflecting on God’s Holy Word.[38]    (Source: Wikipedia. The Free Encyclopedia. Retrieved from the internet on March 5, 2025. Ash Wednesday,). Ash Wednesday is not a commanded celebration by God.

The official observance of Ash Wednesday starts at 12AM and ends at midnight, its spiritual impact continues throughout Lent (a 40-day period of reflection, fasting, and prayer).  Lent officially ends on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday, which celebrates Jesus’ resurrection.

Five Things a Christian Should NOT Have in Their Heart

Hate – Hate hardens the heart and pushes us away from God. Jesus calls us to love our enemies (Matthew 5:44 KJV). If hate is in your heart, ask God to fill you with His love instead.

Jealousy – Envy poisons the soul. The Bible says, “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” (James 3:16 KJV). Let’s trust God’s plan for our own lives instead of comparing ourselves to others.

Revenge – Holding onto revenge is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to suffer. God says, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” (Romans 12:19). Let Him handle it!

Grudge Heartedness – A grudge is like carrying a heavy backpack everywhere you go—it weighs you down. Jesus carried the cross so you don’t have to carry grudges. Let it go.

Unforgiveness – Jesus forgave even while hanging on the cross: “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34 KJV). If Jesus can forgive those who crucified Him, we can forgive those who hurt us.

The Fruit of the Spirit: What God Wants for You

Instead of these toxic things, God wants to fill your heart with the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV):

🍎 Love
🍊 Joy
🍌 Peace
🍉 Patience
🍇 Kindness
🍑 Goodness
🍒 Faithfulness
🥝 Gentleness
🥭 Self-Control

Doesn’t that sound way better? Repenting with the Holy Spirit is about letting go of what is hurting you and allowing God to fill you with what is GOOD.

Take Time This Ash Wednesday to Meditate on This:

Spend a quiet moment with God today. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what needs to go from your heart. Pray, repent, and receive His forgiveness and peace.

Let’s keep our hearts clean and full of God’s love. ❤️ 🙏

Reflection Question: What is one thing in your heart that God is asking you to let go of today?

A CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
