Throughout history, slavery has been a dark stain on human civilization. Many wonder—did Jesus condone slavery? What does the Bible really say? And how does Black History shape the future of African Americans today?

Jesus and Slavery: What Does the Bible Say?
Jesus did not explicitly speak against slavery, but He laid the foundation for its destruction. His teachings of love, equality, and justice were radical in a world where slavery was the norm. In Luke 4:18 (KJV), Jesus declared:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.”
This was a direct challenge to oppression. The apostles later reinforced this message—Galatians 3:28 (KJV) states:
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Paul also encouraged slave owners to treat their slaves as brothers in Philemon 1:16 (KJV):
“Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?”
Christianity planted the seeds of freedom, and over time, slavery was abolished where biblical principles were upheld.
Black History: Have We Progressed?
From the Transatlantic Slave Trade to Jim Crow, Black people have fought for dignity and justice. Today, opportunities exist that our ancestors never imagined, yet challenges remain—poverty, systemic racism, and self-worth issues still plague communities. True progress is not just material but spiritual—knowing our worth in Christ is the key to true freedom.
What Should Black People Learn from Black History?
- Faith and Resilience: Our ancestors relied on God to endure suffering and push forward.
- Education and Knowledge: The Bible says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6, KJV).
- Unity and Love: Division weakens communities. Jesus said in Mark 3:25 (KJV), “If a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”
- Identity in Christ: Our value is not in worldly success but in being children of God.
Reflection Question: How can Black History inspire us to walk in faith, wisdom, and unity today?

CALL TO SALVATION:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 10:9-10 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in your heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
John 3:5-6 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is the Spirit.
