Many people think the Seventh Commandment is only about marriage. But as a counselor, I see how this commandment protects hearts, families, and trust. God designed relationships to be safe, faithful, and honoring. When this design is ignored, pain follows.
The Seventh Commandment requires us to preserve purity in heart, speech, and behavior, and forbids anything that dishonors God’s design for relationships.

What the Seventh Commandment Means
The Bible says, “Thou shalt not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14 KJV).
This commandment includes:
Faithfulness in marriage
Honesty in relationships
Guarding the heart and mind
Respecting boundaries
Jesus taught that purity begins in the heart, not just in actions. God cares about motives as well as behavior.
Why This Commandment Matters Today
Today’s culture often treats relationships as temporary and disposable. Psychology shows that broken trust causes deep emotional wounds, including anxiety, depression, and insecurity.
God’s command protects people from:

A Bible Story: David and Bathsheba
In 2 Samuel 11 KJV, King David saw Bathsheba and acted on desire instead of wisdom. His actions led to adultery, lies, and eventually death.
This story shows how ignoring God’s design for purity leads to destruction—even for strong leaders.
In 2 Samuel 11–12 (KJV), King David was at the height of success and favor with God. One evening, instead of being where he should have been—leading his army in battle—David stayed home. From his rooftop he saw Bathsheba bathing, and instead of turning away, he followed his desire. He sent for her, and they committed adultery.
Soon Bathsheba became pregnant. Instead of confessing his sin, David tried to hide it. He called her husband, Uriah, home from war hoping he would spend time with his wife and believe the child was his. But Uriah refused to enjoy comfort while his fellow soldiers were still fighting. David then made a terrible choice—he arranged for Uriah to be placed in the most dangerous part of battle so he would be killed. Uriah died, and David took Bathsheba as his wife.
God sent the prophet Nathan to confront David. When David realized his sin, he repented deeply. God forgave David, but there were still serious consequences for his actions. Nathan told David that the child born from the affair would die. The baby became very sick, and despite David’s fasting and prayer, the child passed away (2 Samuel 12:14–18 KJV).
What began as a private moment of temptation turned into deception, betrayal, and death. This story shows that even forgiven sin can bring painful earthly consequences. It reminds us that wisdom begins with turning away from temptation early and choosing obedience before small compromises grow into great harm.
What Obeying the Seventh Commandment Looks Like
Obedience includes:
Being faithful in marriage
Setting boundaries in friendships
Guarding media and influences
Practicing self-control
emotional maturity
God’s command teaches respect—for yourself and others.
How This Commandment Heals Relationships
Healing comes when people choose faithfulness and repentance to break unholy soul ties made. Trust grows where honesty lives. Purity is not about perfection—it is about direction.
Grace for Those Who Have Fallen
Many carry shame from past failures. God offers forgiveness and restoration through repentance. Healing is possible.
