Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind… and thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (Matthew 22:37–39 KJV).

 

Many people think obedience is about rules. Others think love means doing whatever feels right. The Bible teaches something better. True obedience flows from love, and true love follows God’s truth.

God requires obedience. Scripture explains how we obey. Jesus summed it up clearly: love God fully and love others faithfully. This is called the obedience of faith—obedience that comes from trusting God, not fear.

 

 

What the Bible Teaches

Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind… and thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (Matthew 22:37–39 KJV).

This means obedience is not just behavior. It starts in the heart. When people love God, obedience follows naturally. When people love others, their actions reflect God’s character.

True faith shows itself in love and obedience. It is not passive.

 

Why People Struggle With Obedience Today

Many people struggle with obedience because they have been hurt by authority figures. Psychology shows that when authority is misused, people may reject structure altogether.

Others struggle because they separate love from truth. They believe love means never correcting or setting boundaries. But love without truth often leads to harm.

Another reason is the difficulty of self-denial. Some people believe obedience is too hard.  Many desire the praise of people more than the approval of God.

They want fame, money, material things and friends. In otherwords, I love you God but..They want to be Lord over their own lives.

They may say, “I love you, God,” but quietly think, “I don’t want to stop fornicating, committing adultery, drinking heavily, overeating, or using drugs.”

When it comes to something they enjoy, they are not ready to give it up.

 

Some feel overwhelmed and say, “God, you don’t know how difficult this person is. I cannot deal with my child, spouse, parent, or boss anymore.”

Many do not realize there is no real love without truth. The Holy Spirit helps us obey God—we do not have to do it alone.

The Holy Spirit helps, strengthens, and guides those who commit to Him. As we trust God, He gives new understanding, new thinking, and the ability to forgive and grow.

Be ready to accept the truth about your situation. As up pray and praise God through it, you may have dreams, experiences, and scripture that help you understand what to do.

God guides people toward truth and growth.

 

God promises, “I will not fail you.” A new way of living calls for a new way of thinking. What feels too hard can be given to Him in trust.

Over time, you may begin to see others in a new light and understand their pain or weakness. In the end, you can return to forgiveness, love, and growth.

God’s way is balanced. He calls people to love deeply and live rightly. He seeks those who worship in spirit and in truth.

Matthew 11:30 KJV  “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

 

 

Bible Story: The Good Samaritan — Choosing Love in Action

In Luke 10, Jesus told a story about a man who was attacked by thieves, beaten, and left half dead on the roadside. A priest passed by and did nothing. A Levite also saw the man and walked away. Then a Samaritan—someone many people disliked—stopped to help.

The Samaritan didn’t just feel sorry; he took action.

Luke 10:33–35 (KJV):
“But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.”

The Samaritan:

• Stopped and showed compassion.

• Cleaned and treated the man’s wounds.

• Carried him to safety.

• Paid for his care.

• Promised to return and cover any extra cost.

This was costly love. It took time, money, effort, and kindness.

Jesus ended the story with a clear command:

Luke 10:37 (KJV): “Go, and do thou likewise.”

The lesson is simple but powerful: loving your neighbor is not just a feeling—it is a choice. Real obedience to God shows up in everyday moments when we choose compassion, sacrifice, and action.

 

 

A Real-Life Experience

Once a man said, “I love God, but I don’t like people.” His relationships were broken, and he often felt angry and alone.

As he studied Scripture, he realized that loving God could not be separated from loving others. He began practicing small acts of kindness—listening, apologizing, forgiving, non judgemental.

Over time, his relationships improved, and his anger lessened. Obedience brought healing, not restriction.

 

Philippians 4:13 (KJV): “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

 

What Loving God Looks Like daily

Loving God includes:

Prayer in Jesus name

Reading Scripture

Praise

Communion – renewing the covenant  (weekly)

Obeying His commands

Repenting when we fail

Serving others  (even if it means feeding your family, checking on an elderly who may live alone.)

Forgiving

Loving others with words and action

This love grows over time. It is not about perfection, but direction.

 

 

What Loving Others Looks Like Daily

Loving others includes:

Speaking truth with kindness

Helping when we can

✔️Forgiving instead of holding grudges  🔥🔥🔥  Let it go! 

✔️Respecting boundaries

✔️ Honoring committments or promises  🔥🔥🔥

 

Why Obedience Brings Freedom

Many people think obedience limits freedom. The Bible teaches the opposite. Obedience protects us from harm and leads to peace.

As a counselor, I see emotional healing begin when people stop asking, “What can I get away with?” and start asking, “How can I love God and others today?”

Things may be legal but not morally right.  People fix up paperwork every day to do dirt legally. People are stealing houses.   God sees all. 

 

Romans 12:19 (KJV):
“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”

That question changes everything.
