Political Power Can’t Save a City Without Repentance:
Matthew 11:20 KJV
“Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:”
When Cities Lose Their Moral Compass
When a city is blessed with favor—growth, power, and resources—its leaders and citizens are held to a higher standard before God. But when crime and corruption rise and people begin calling evil good and good evil, that favor becomes a warning. Criminal empires—whether in gangs, politics, business, or organized systems—are the tools of Satan’s influence. They thrive when laws protect sin and punish righteousness.
In the end times, the Son of Perdition—the Antichrist—will not only deceive hearts but will also use legislation to control nations and silence truth. Scripture tells us that “the mystery of iniquity doth already work” (2 Thessalonians 2:7 KJV). Laws that reject God’s authority and favor wickedness are the first signs of a system preparing for global control.
(2 Thessalonians 2:7-10 KJV). 7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

How Criminal Systems Reflect the Spirit of Babylon
In ancient Israel, leaders approved of idolatry and even child sacrifice to false gods. They turned worship into corruption, and God removed His protection. 2 Kings 17:17 (KJV) says, “They caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire… and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.”
The same happened in Babylon—a city so powerful and proud that it called itself eternal. Yet Revelation 18:2 (KJV) declares, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils.” God promised there would never be another Babylon like it—a global empire built on rebellion, luxury, and the blood of the innocent.
Revelation 18:2 KJV “And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.”
These ancient examples show that when crime, corruption, and false worship unite with government power, judgment soon follows.
How the Church & Believers Must Respond
1. Engage with civic leadership wisely.
Whether Democrat or Republican, believers must be watchful and bold in truth. Evil can wear any party’s label. We are called to be a prophetic voice—calling leaders to righteousness, justice, and humility before God (Micah 6:8 KJV).
Micah 6:8 KJV “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
2. Expose criminal influence and pray for deliverance.
The Bible commands, “Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians 5:11 KJV). The church must pray, speak, and stand against systems that profit from crime, exploitation, and violence.
3. Leverage the city’s favor for good.
Even in dark places, God’s people can bring light. Churches and ministries can strengthen families, guide the lost, help victims, and turn the hearts of the young back to Christ.
4. Be vigilant about legislation.
When leaders make laws that oppose God’s Word, believers must resist in truth and love. Isaiah 10:1 (KJV) warns, “Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed.” The Son of Perdition will use such laws to persecute the righteous—but those who remain faithful will overcome through the Lamb (Revelation 12:11 KJV).
Revelation 12:11 KJV) “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”

Reflection: The Danger of Neglect
When a city refuses to repent—even after countless chances and God’s mercy—it begins to lose His covering. As Jesus said in Matthew 11:20 KJV, even the cities that witnessed His greatest miracles faced judgment because they would not turn from sin. Large, powerful cities are not protected by wealth or politics. Their favor becomes their downfall when they exalt sin and silence truth.
Matthew 11:20 KJV “Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:”
If your city is large, influential, and facing corruption and moral decline, this is not the time to despair—it’s the time to stand. The church must awaken, pray, and shine. Evil may grow bold, but it cannot overcome the light of Christ.
We are the salt and the light (Matthew 5:13-14 KJV). Through repentance, prayer, and action, God’s people can still bring healing and restoration to their cities—turning judgment into revival, and fear into faith.
Matthew 5:13 KJV Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

A CALL TO SALVATION:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 10:9-109That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
John 3:5-65Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
