Hello Truth Seekers and Believers,

Stress touches everyone, but sometimes stress goes beyond a “busy day.” The human mind can become so overwhelmed that it starts to struggle.

This is not because people are “broken.” It is because the mind, like the body, gets tired, strained, and overloaded. Let’s talk about it.

To understand the kind of stress I’m talking about, here is a simple explanation from a scientific point of view explaining the difference between Neurosis and psychosis:

Neurosis happens when a person is stressed or anxious, but they still know what is real. It may look like:

• constant worry

• trouble sleeping

• fear that will not go away

• strong emotions that feel hard to control

• sadness or irritability

• nose picking

Neurosis does not disconnect a person from reality. They can still think clearly but may feel overwhelmed inside. These conditions are treatable, especially when people get support, rest, prayer, and wise counsel. 

Psychosis is much more serious. It happens when the brain becomes so stressed or overloaded that a person loses touch with reality.

This may look like:

• hearing voices no one else hears

• seeing things that are not there

• believing things that are not true

• confused thoughts

• feeling detached from the world around them

Psychosis is also treatable, especially with professional help. Many people recover and live peaceful, full lives.

Personal Testimony:

I still remember one year in college like it was yesterday. I was a junior attending a Christian school in Macon, Georgia, not far from home. The classes were getting harder, heavier, and more eye-opening.

As an elective, I signed up for international law and several law-related courses. Those classes changed how I viewed everything. They opened my eyes to how the world works—legally, physically, and spiritually.

For the first time, I truly understood why Moses was given the Ten Commandments. God determined that where there is no law, there is no sin. 

Romans 4:15 (KJV)  “Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.”

• Once the law was given (through Moses), sin became clear, defined, and accountable.

• And this is why grace through Jesus Christ is so important—He removes the guilt the law exposes.

Truth exists, and no one can change it. It governs the universe. By Jesus Christ, you can be pardoned for breaking God’s law, but the law itself cannot be rewritten. The further we drift from truth and love, the more we lose our spiritual strength.

John 1:17 (KJV) tells us, “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”

Every time we go against God’s truth, we distance ourselves from His power and can even create mental and physical struggles for ourselves. This is the law of nature. But Jesus came with grace and truth to restore us. Through repentance and forgiveness, He brings us back into right standing with God so we can live abundantly—with a sound mind and a peaceful spirit.

Back then, I had a nervous habit that embarrassed me: I picked my nose when I got stressed. I didn’t even realize I did it as much as I did. Later, when the other classes were filled, I ended up in a basic psychology course. That little “accident” turned out to be a blessing.

The professor was sharp. She noticed everything. One day, she taught a lesson on neurosis and psychosis. To my surprise—and horror—she used nose-picking as an example of a neurosis. I sat there thinking, Oh no. That’s me. A couple of classmates smile and looked at me.

By the end of the class, I had made up my mind: I have to stop, or people will think I’m crazy. Lord, help me.  Just like that—instant cure.

A few weeks later, my teacher smiled at me and said, “I noticed you don’t pick your nose anymore.” I just smiled back and gave a soft laugh. Inside, I was thinking, Lord, she really WAS watching.

1 Peter 5:7 KJV  “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

From that day on, I became a little paranoid about giving off “crazy vibes,” even though that wasn’t the case at all. As the years went by, I found myself doing the same thing she did—recognizing different little neuroses in other people, mostly to amuse myself. I never said anything to correct anyone.

The most common ones? Funny eating habits, loud laughing, or people who simply don’t know what to do with their hands.

Over time, I realized something important: we all have quirks. We all have habits. None of us are perfect—and that’s perfectly fine. We’re human. And sometimes, those little quirks are what make life a bit lighter and more amusing. Jesus understands these things and lets us know when we need help.

Hebrews 4:15 KJV  “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

 

God has never asked us to walk through life alone. He invites us to ask for help from Him and from wise people around us. James 1:5 (KJV) reminds us, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God… and it shall be given him.”

Wisdom helps you know what you need: a comforting friend, a day of rest, a loving conversation, or even professional help. God uses many kinds of help to heal His children. In my case, it was a teacher. I wasn’t aware I had a problem. 

The Bible teaches that guidance and safety come from community. “In the multitude of counsellors they are established” (Proverbs 15:22 KJV). God designed us to imitate the environment we stay in. That means our friends, habits, and surroundings shape our mental health more than we realize.

Protect your environment. Choose loving, God-fearing people. Stay connected to believers. Reach out to family. And if needed, make new friends who lift your spirit and guard your peace. “Iron sharpeneth iron” (Proverbs 27:17 KJV).

The holidays are beautiful for some and heartbreaking for others. Many are missing husbands, wives, parents, children, or friends. Some are fighting sickness. Others are sitting in hospital rooms praying for someone they love.

Some have lost homes to fires, storms, or war. There are families whose young soldiers never came home. This is why kindness matters so deeply. A warm smile, a gentle greeting, or a kind word can lift a soul that is silently hurting.

Jesus is our closest friend. He understands every feeling we carry, every neurosis and psychosis as well a disability. When we place our trust in Him, His peace fills the mind.  

We can walk in His love, even when seasons are hard.
