Love Obeys God and Breaks Division
Division often grows when love grows cold. Jesus warned in Matthew 24:12 (KJV), “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”
When sin increases, hearts can become hard. People become quick to judge, slow to forgive, and eager to separate from one another.
Cold love opens the door to bitterness, pride, and strife. But God calls His people to a higher way.
Jesus made God’s will plain and simple. In Matthew 22:37–39 (KJV), He said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind…
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” These two commands hold everything together. Reconciliation grows where people obey God in love. If we truly love God, that love must show up in how we treat people.
The story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:30–37 gives a strong picture of this truth. A man was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho when thieves attacked him.
They stripped him, wounded him, and left him half dead. A priest came by and looked, but passed on the other side. Then a Levite came and did the same. Both saw the pain, but did not stop.
Then came a Samaritan. This is important because Samaritans and Jews had deep cultural and religious division. Many Jews saw Samaritans as outsiders and enemies.
Yet the Samaritan was the one who had compassion. He bound the man’s wounds, placed him on his own animal, took him to an inn, and paid for his care.
Jesus then asked who was the true neighbor. The answer was clear: the one who showed mercy.
This story teaches that love crosses barriers. Love does not stop to ask race, class, group, or background. Love sees a human being made by God.
Romans 13:10 (KJV) says, “Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.” Real love does not harm. It helps, heals, and humbles itself.
From a counseling view, empathy lowers hostility. When people stop seeing others as labels and start seeing them as souls, walls can come down.
Compassion changes behavior. Scripture agrees. Ephesians 4:32 (KJV) says, “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
Love is not weak emotion. It is spiritual obedience. 1 John 4:20 (KJV) teaches that a person cannot claim to love God while hating a brother.
To love God is to obey Him, and His command is clear: love people. When believers walk in that kind of love, division loses power and reconciliation can begin.
