Scripture: Jeremiah 22:3 KJV
“Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.”
The news is buzzing again—headlines shouting about the government shutdown or is it going to open? Paychecks paused, tensions high, and uncertainty in the air. For many, it’s more than politics; it’s personal. But beyond the noise and debates, what does it all really mean? Let’s Talk About it.

A Night to Remember
I remember one evening sitting on my couch, excitement filling the air. Barack Obama was president—our first African American leader in the White House. It was a moment of pride for many, yet the news was full of tension and division. His opponents were fierce, and it seemed the nation was split in half. Still, Black communities everywhere felt hope and joy seeing an educated, charismatic man of color lead the country.
It was a Wednesday night—Bible study night. The clock read 6:45 p.m., and I had just enough time to make it before picking up my daughter from work later. When I arrived at the church, the parking lot was packed. Something was different that night.
The preacher stood tall, smiling, and began, “I have an announcement.” The sanctuary fell silent. Then came the words: “The government has shut down.”
You could hear a pin drop. Faces looked stunned. Then he laughed and said, “How many of you work for the government or get a check from the government?” Hands went up all over the room.
The pastor roared with laughter as if he was at a comedy club. “I’m so glad the church is not dependent on the government,” he said. “We trust in God, not man. The government can shut down—but the Kingdom of God never shuts down.”
Trust in the Lord, Not Man
Those words stayed with me. Governments rise and fall. Leaders argue and fail. But God never changes. His provision is not tied to politics or paychecks—it comes from heaven itself. Jesus said, “My Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.” (John 6:32 KJV)
Jeremiah 17:7–8 KJV reminds us:
“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD… For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters… her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought.”
No matter who’s in office or what laws are passed, God’s Word stands. The righteous will still bear fruit even in dry seasons.
Faith Over Fear
When the world trembles—when banks, jobs, or governments fail—remember Deuteronomy 31:6 KJV:
““Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.””
The preacher that night was right. Our help doesn’t come from Washington or Wall Street. It comes from the Lord who owns it all.
As the verse in Jeremiah 22:3 KJV declares, we are called to live justly, help the oppressed, and care for the stranger, the widow, and the fatherless. That’s what it means to “meet at the church.” It’s not just a building—it’s a gathering of believers who carry out God’s righteousness in the world.
Final Reflection
So when life feels uncertain, meet me at the church—not just the physical place, but in the spirit of worship and faith. There, we remember that “bread comes from heaven” and that no shutdown, no political storm, can stop God’s provision.
Even now, there’s hope on the horizon. The United States Senate has passed a funding package that would reopen the government, but it still needs final approval from the United States House of Representatives and the President’s signature. According to CBS News, the government should open tomorrow.
Reflection Question:
When the systems of this world fail, do you turn to God first—or only after everything else stops working?

Romans 10:9-109That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
