Dear Truth Seekers and Believers, 

I wrote this letter while reflecting on how our world desperately needs more love and sharing. Some give freely, but many hold back. I see people struggle with tithes or helping others, yet order from Amazon daily. The truth is—it’s not about money, but about the heart.

I recently watched a Hurricane Katrina documentary. Survivors shared how they didn’t need money—there was nowhere to spend it. What they needed was love and people willing to give what was truly necessary. That stayed with me.

The desires of our hearts are revealed by how we use our treasures. Giving is more than money—it’s service, love, and obedience. My mother used to say, “Some people keep a closed fist. Nothing goes out and nothing comes in.” If we never release, we never receive. God blesses open hands.  Let’s talk about it.

The Bible’s Money Principles

1. Spending – “The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want” (Proverbs 21:5 KJV). Spend wisely and plan carefully.

2. Savings – “There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up” (Proverbs 21:20 KJV). Save for the future.

3. Giving – “He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not” (Proverbs 21:26 KJV). A righteous person gives freely.

4. Pay Taxes – “Render therefore to all their dues… tribute to whom tribute is due” (Romans 13:7-8 KJV). Obey the law of the land.

5. Retire Debt – “The borrower is servant to the lender” (Proverbs 22:7 KJV). And in Acts 2:45 KJV, early believers sold their possessions to help others.

 

Why Tithes Matter

Many people today avoid paying tithes, saying, “The church doesn’t give back the way I expect.” Yet often, those same people don’t give anywhere. Tithing is not a savings account—it’s obedience.

God promises in Malachi 3:10 KJV to open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings. Those blessings may not always be cash; they may come as a new job, a cancelled bill, or a loan you didn’t qualify for. God knows exactly what you need, and His grace is enough.

If you give expecting repayment, that’s not giving—it’s lending. If you can’t support one church, find another, or give to a Christian ministry that serves people through prayer, support, and love. There is no excuse for withholding from God.

Jesus warned the Pharisees in Luke 11:42 KJV: “Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God.” In today’s words: “You pay tithes, but you won’t even help your own mother and father.” Tithing means little if it lacks compassion, justice, and love.

 

Serious Lessons From Scripture

The first murder in the Bible was between two brothers. Cain was evil and Abel was good. Cain brought an offering of crops, but Abel offered the best of his flock to God. Abel gave from his heart, and God accepted his gift.

Cain held back and became jealous, and in his anger he killed his brother. This story reminds us that giving is about more than the gift—it is about obedience, honesty, and the condition of the heart.

In Acts 5 KJV, Ananias and Sapphira sold land but lied about the amount they gave. Their dishonesty cost them their lives. God takes giving seriously because it reveals the truth about our devotion.

Testimonies on Giving

My uncle, a generous elder on social security, once told a young man at a gas station who asked him for gas money, “Why not sell that gold chain if you need money?” The man was speechless. Too often, people complain that the church or church people don’t give, while they themselves live in ways that don’t match their requests.

Not long after, God tested me. During my devotion, I had told Him I would give to anyone in need, no matter their nationality. The very next day at Walmart, a disabled Chinese man asked me for $40. I didn’t have cash, but I went inside, got some, and gave it to him. He rushed off with a after thought thanks, yet I knew—it wasn’t about receiving gratitude or Thank you – eventhough it is nice to get. It was about obedience. When we give, we give as unto God.

Jesus once healed ten men with leprosy, yet only one returned to say thank you. Surprised, He asked, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?” Still, Jesus kept healing, blessing, and meeting needs—gratitude or not.

Even on the cross, while soldiers gambled for His clothes and the crowd mocked Him, He prayed, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” Jesus gave the greatest gift of all—His life. And no matter how much we give, we can never outgive God.

 

A Personal Reflection

I once gave $20 to a middle-aged woman sleeping in her car. I didn’t know if her story was true, but I was thankful I had it to give. When I asked how her day was, she looked stunned—like no one had cared enough to ask in a long time. She smiled, thanked God, and spoke about her daughter she hoped to see soon.

It wasn’t just the money that touched her—it was the reminder that she was seen and loved. A small act, given with the right heart, can be greater than a large sum given without compassion.

Closing Thought

Giving is not about losing—it’s about gaining. It opens doors, multiplies blessings, and reflects the love of Christ. As 2 Corinthians 9:7 KJV reminds us, ““Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

Let’s live with open hands, open hearts, and open eyes, ready to serve like Jesus.  Spread encouragement. Give joyfully. Invest in what lasts forever.
