“In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 KJV).

Hello Truth Seekers and Believers,

Fear can feel especially heavy when life is hard. Single parents wonder how to raise children alone. The jobless feel powerless. The homeless worry about where to sleep. Those with low self-esteem often believe they are not enough.

Fear whispers that they cannot move forward ata time they need to plan to move forward. But God says something greater: “My grace is sufficient.” And His Word reminds us, “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” Let’s talk about it.

When I was in college, I saw many different personalities—some strong, some weak. Growing up, my parents didn’t always say “I love you,” but I never doubted it. Their love was shown through hard work, providing for us, celebrating our successes, and creating joy in our home. If we were poor, I didn’t know it, because we had everything that really mattered.

On Sundays, we praised God as a family—alongside our extended family and church family. Church wasn’t a chore; it was something we looked forward to. The night before, we laid out our outfits like it was a holiday. On Sunday morning, it felt like a joyful parade as people walked to the front to give their offerings. They were proud to be God’s people.

These were janitors, school cooks, nannys, maids, postal workers, garbage collectors, teachers, doctors, and grandparents—yet they all carried themselves like presidents and first ladies, giving their best to God. Their joy in the Lord was their strength. I was so proud of them.

No matter what struggles they faced, they wore dignity like a crown. They were not broken people even tho they had reasons to be. They did not let a little rain bother them when they survived the storm. Today when I visit churches, I still see that kind of strength in the older saints—the deacons, deaconesses, and ushers.

The ushers in their crisp white uniforms still remind me of those days. I pray for the younger generation of today, that they find that joy to have that strength. Get out the bed and go to the house of the Lord.  His spirit is there. Why would expect someone to give you blessings but you never come to their house

If you do have a job, you look for one until you find one. If you do not have a church family or one you like, search until you find one. God will guide you. Don’t give up.

That foundation of God, worship, and family gave me physical, mental, and spiritual stability. It taught me a lasting truth: people cannot meet your every need, no matter how much they try. Sometimes we are called to be the pillar others lean on in unfavorable times. Our true strength comes only from God.

College reminded me of this even more. Some of my peers seemed to always need reassurance—love, money, attention. It was draining to watch. Over time, I realized that underneath it all was fear: fear of being unloved, fear of being alone, fear of not being enough, fear of life itself.

In some cultures, especially among women, this dependency was even taught, keeping them powerless and afraid to step out of line.

Science agrees with what I observed. Relationships often crumble when one person is overly needy. That kind of fear and dependency can destroy marriages, families, and friendships. Everything becomes a crisis.

Some turn to drugs or medications, and some end up in psychiatric wards. But others, with time and maturity, learn to grow stronger. I learned early on that the real answer is not found in people—it is found in God

love cast our fear

Fear vs. God’s Love

The Bible says, ““There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”” (1 John 4:18 KJV). Fear punishes the mind, but God’s love brings freedom.

Jesus also said, “But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows” (Luke 12:7 KJV). If God values a sparrow, how much more does He value you?

And before leaving His disciples, Jesus said: ““Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”” (John 14:27 KJV). Peace is a gift from God that no person can take away.

Finding Strength in Struggle

For the single parent, the jobless, or the homeless—fear can feel overwhelming. But God’s Word says, ““Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”” (Nehemiah 8:10 KJV ). His joy is not based on money, attention, or approval. His joy is steady and unshakable.

Jesus was honest about life’s challenges: “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 KJV). Fear says you will be crushed, but Jesus says you are already victorious in Him. When Jesus walked in the flesh, he suffered as we do today, he understands our fears and trials.

Hebrews 4:15 KJV  “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

A Word on Today’s World

In the past, college campuses were safe places where young adults learned confidence and purpose. Today, many are filled with protests that end in violence, promoting fear instead of growth. This should not be tolerated. Do not be afraid to stand up for peace in your surroundings, whatever that may be. Peace is a gift of God—guard it.

Three Action Steps to Overcome Fear

Replace Fearful Thoughts with God’s Word – Learn scripture:

Isaiah 54:17 KJV  “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue {WORD}   (not person)  that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”

Psychology teaches that repeating fearful thoughts makes fear grow stronger. Scripture teaches us to renew our minds (Romans 12:2 KJV). When fear rises, replace it with God’s promises: “Peace I leave with you…” (John 14:27).

(Romans 12:2 KJV) “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Practice Gratitude Daily
Studies show gratitude lowers stress and fear. Spiritually, gratitude draws us into God’s joy. Each day, thank God for at least three things, even small ones. This simple act invites His strength: “The joy of the LORD is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10 KJV).

Take One Step Forward in Faith with the Holy Spirit
Fear paralyzes; love moves us forward. Whether it’s filling out a job application, reaching out for help, or joining a church community, do one small step. Jesus reminds us: “Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 KJV).

John 14:26 KJV  “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Takeaway

Fear makes people needy, restless, and powerless. But perfect love casts out fear. God values you, Jesus gives peace, and His joy is your strength. Whether you are poor, broken, lonely, or afraid—move forward in His power.
