Many people ask, “Are we living in the last days?” The Bible gives us signs, but it also gives us hope. In Mark 13 KJV, Jesus warned His disciples about events that would take place before His return. Let’s look at what He said.

The Abomination of Desolation
Mark 13:12–16 (KJV) says: 12Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.
13And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that read understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:
15And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house: 16And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.
This warning was first for the people of Jerusalem. The “abomination of desolation” means something so sinful and evil it defiles God’s holy place (Church). Daniel spoke of it hundreds of years earlier (Daniel 9:27 KJV). Jesus told the people that when this event came, they must act quickly and not look back. It was a message of urgency—life with God was more important than material possessions.

Signs in the Heavens
Later, in verses Mark 24–25 KJV, Jesus said:
“But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.”
These signs in the sky remind us that God is in control of creation. When the time comes, the whole universe will respond to His power. These are not ordinary days—they point to the return of Christ.

The Son of Man Returns
Verse 26 gives us hope:
“And then shall they see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.”
This is the good news! After the trials and shaking of the world, Jesus will return. He will send His angels to gather His people from every corner of the earth (v. 27). For believers, this is not a day of fear but of joy.

What Does It Mean for Us Today?
Jesus also said:
“So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors” (Mark 13:29 KJV).
But He reminded us that no one knows the exact day or hour—not even the angels or the Son, only the Father (Mark 13:32 KJV). That’s why Jesus told us:
“Take ye heed, watch and pray” (Mark 13:33 KJV).
The lesson is clear. Don’t try to set dates. Don’t be consumed by fear. Instead, be ready, stay watchful, and live faithfully.
Reflection
The end is not meant to scare us but to prepare us. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away” (Mark 13:31 KJV). His promises stand forever.

Are you holding on to material things, or are you holding on to God’s Word?
Do you spend more time worrying about “when” instead of preparing your heart to meet Him?
