Jeremiah wrote Lamentations after hard loss. The city was in ruins. People were tired and afraid. Yet, right in the middle of pain, he speaks hope: “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed… They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” God’s mercy means He does not give us what we deserve. His compassion means His heart is tender toward us. These do not run out. They start fresh each day, like sunrise after a dark night.

“The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.” A portion is your share, your supply. Jeremiah says, “God is enough for me.” When people fail, when plans break, God does not. He is steady. He keeps His Word.
“The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.” To wait is not doing nothing. It is trusting while you pray, read Scripture, and obey. It is turning to God first, not last. It is saying, “Lord, guide my steps,” and then taking the next right step.
“It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.” Quiet waiting is calm inside, even when life is loud outside. We breathe, we listen, and we rest in God’s timing. Salvation here means God’s rescue, help, and care—in this life and forever in Christ.

Today, receive the morning mercies. Say: “Lord, You are my portion. I place my hope in You. I will seek You and wait on You.” His faithfulness will meet you again tomorrow.
