45 Day Read The Gospel Challenge

Holy Week 2024 Observed by Christian Believers of All Nationalities. Starting March 24, 2024

Holy Week also known as Passion Week to the Christian believers is the week immediately before Easter. Christian believers around the world of all nationalities and denomations commemorate the final week of Jesus Christ’s life, including his crucifixion, death, and resurrection. Holy Week begins with the commemoration of Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem until Palm Sunday (Easter).

Christian churches (Believers in Jesus Christ as the Son of God) of all denomations observe Holy Week with a range of services and events, though specific practices may vary among congregations.

Usually bread is not eaten during this week, communion is celebrated and fasting is encouraged. However, if you have medical problems check with your doctor on how to fast. This author, being a diabetic fast upon retiring for the night until hours of waking up. That means no waking up and getting snacks.  You may just fast for an hour or two, you announce you are fasting then announce when you have completed your fast in a prayer to God.  It works.

  1. Unleavened Bread: During Passover, which coincides with Holy Week, Jewish tradition calls for the removal of leavened bread (chametz) or regular bread from the home. This practice is also observed by some Christians, particularly those of the Eastern Orthodox tradition, who may consume unleavened bread during this time.
  2. Holy Communion: Many Christian denominations celebrate the Last Supper during Holy Week, where bread (often unleavened) and wine symbolize the body and blood of Jesus Christ. This practice is known as Holy Communion or the Eucharist.
  3. Fasting: Some Christians fast during Holy Week, abstaining from certain foods, which may include bread. The act of fasting is seen as a way to focus on spiritual matters and draw closer to God.
