Good Friday Reflections: The Sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross
Keywords: Good Friday, crucifixion of Jesus, meaning of the cross, jesus christ, our living hope, covered by grace
Good Friday is a solemn day for Christians around the world as it commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It’s a time to reflect on the immense sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross. Let’s take a moment to understand the significance of this day and what it means for us.
The story of Jesus’ crucifixion is found in the Bible, in the Gospel of John. Jesus was betrayed by one of His disciples, Judas, and arrested by the authorities. He was then put on trial, mocked, and sentenced to death by crucifixion. Jesus was nailed to a cross and crucified alongside two criminals. As He hung on the cross, Jesus spoke words of forgiveness and love, even for those who crucified Him.
- Sacrifice for Sin: Jesus’ death on the cross was a sacrifice for our sins. He took upon Himself the punishment that we deserved. As it says in 1 Peter 2:24, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed” (KJV).
- Victory over Death: While Jesus died on the cross, His death was not the end. It was through His death and resurrection that He conquered sin and death. Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (KJV). This demonstrates the incredible love that Jesus has for us.
- A Call to Repentance: Good Friday is also a reminder of the need for repentance. Jesus’ sacrifice calls us to turn away from sin and turn towards God. Acts 3:19 KJV says, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord” (KJV).
In conclusion, Good Friday is a day to remember and reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. His death on the cross was not in vain but was a demonstration of His great love for us. As we reflect on Good Friday, may we be reminded of the depth of God’s love and the forgiveness that is available to us through Jesus’ sacrifice.

A CALL TO SALVATION:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 10:9-10 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
John 3:5-6 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
