From the Editor’s Desk: A Mother’s Love Is Not Always Perfect—But It’s Real

This is my second Mother’s Day without my mom, and her memory still speaks loud in my heart. As a child, I saw her as perfect—strong, steady, and always right. But growing up, I came to understand she was a woman first—a person with her own flaws, emotions, and past.  Let’s talk.

My mother was married to my father for 17 years before they divorced. I was about 15, and my sister 14. Despite life’s challenges, she never gave up. She didn’t have a college degree, but she was educated in technical school.

She was a good bread winner.  She had a memory like a steel trap. She could recall everything—especially when it came to her children! She was a faithful churchgoer, even earning her own reserved parking spot.

She wasn’t very affectionate in our early years, but she gave everything she had. Her advice was firm and old-school: Never eat walking down the street, don’t wear curlers or a bonnet outside, and always wear shoes. That was her way of teaching us how to carry ourselves with dignity.

As I grew, I saw that she wasn’t perfect—but she was present. She raised us with love, discipline, and her best effort. And that, dear readers, is bearing fruit. As the Bible says in 1 Timothy 2:15 (KJV): “Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.” A woman who raises her children to know and follow God is walking in purpose—and that kind of mothering is blessed by God.

Today, families look different—single mothers, grandmothers, foster parents, aunts. But when a woman draws close to God, He equips her to raise children in faith, love, and self-control. That’s fruit that lasts.

This Mother’s Day, whether your mother was everything you hoped for or not, honor her. Forgive. Reflect. And be grateful. 1 Peter 4:8 KJV  reminds us that “And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.””

Let’s grow up, love up, and lift up every mother who gave something of herself so someone else could live.

Happy Mother’s Day—to every woman who mothered in the name of love- we don’t have to wait to Sunday :).

“A Mother’s Heart Still Holds”

(A poem for a mother who has lost a child)

There’s a name upon her heart no one can erase,
A child she carried, loved, and kissed—gone from this earthly place.
But Heaven holds what earth cannot, wrapped in God’s embrace.

Though tears may fall like summer rain, her strength will still endure,
Her faith becomes a quiet roar, her love forever pure.
She smiles through the memories—her soul a gentle cure.

To every grieving mother—God sees your sacred tears,
He holds your child, He holds your heart, through all the silent years.
Your motherhood is never lost—it’s love that reappears.

A CALL TO SALVATION:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10  9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

John 3:5-6  5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
