False Prophets Exposed: Are You Listening to Lies or God’s Truth?
Understanding Jeremiah 23:16-22 KJV – Beware of False Prophets
God warns us in Jeremiah 23:16-22 KJV not to believe false prophets. These people claim to speak for God, but they really share their own thoughts and dreams. They tell people who reject God that everything will be fine and they will have peace. They tell them that no harm will come to them. But God makes it clear that these are lies, not His Word.
Jeremiah 23:16-22 KJV 16Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD. 17They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walk after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.
18For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it? 19Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.
20The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly. 21I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied. 22But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.

False Promises Lead to Destruction
God asks, “Who has truly listened to Me?” He warns that His judgment is like a storm—it will come upon the wicked. False prophets run ahead, pretending God has sent them, but He has not. If they had truly listened to God, they would have preached forgiveness, repentance, cleanness (Holy) and led people away from sin. Instead, they let people stay in their evil ways, leading them to destruction.
Biblical Example – The False Prophets in King Ahab’s Time
A clear example of false prophets misleading people is found in 1 Kings 22 KJV. King Ahab wanted to fight a battle, but the prophet Micaiah warned him that God had not given victory. However, 400 false prophets told Ahab that God would give him success. They knew that is what he wanted to hear. Ahab chose to listen to them instead of God’s true prophet, and in the end, he was killed in battle. This shows that listening to false prophets can lead to destruction.

How to Avoid Being Deceived by False Prophets
Test Everything with Scripture (1 John 4:1 KJV) – If someone’s words do not match the Bible, they are not from God.
Look at Their Fruit (Matthew 7:15-20 KJV) – False prophets lead people away from God, while true ones lead people to repentance.
Pray for Discernment (James 1:5 KJV) – Ask God for wisdom to recognize truth from lies.
Reflection Question:
🤔 How can you tell if someone is truly speaking God’s Word or just saying what people want to hear?

A CALL TO SALVATION:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 10:9-10 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
John 3:5-6 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
