Scripture: Matthew 5:10 KJV – “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Persecution and the Cry for Justice

Christians today still suffer for their faith. In places like Nigeria, many believers are attacked simply because they follow Jesus. In Ukraine, Christians are caught in the middle of war, clinging to their faith even in danger.

In China, believers must often worship in secret, hiding from government punishment. And across parts of the Middle East, Christians face violence, loss of homes, and even death for the name of Christ.

This is not new. The Bible shows us that God’s people have always cried out under persecution. In the book of Revelation 6:10 (KJV), the souls of martyrs cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?” God heard them, and He hears His children today.

The prophet Habakkuk also asked God this question. “O Lord, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!” (Habakkuk 1:2 KJV). Habakkuk’s heart was heavy because he saw the wicked seem to win. But God promised that justice would come in His perfect time.

The Psalms also give us these cries: “How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?” (Psalm 13:1 KJV). David felt abandoned, but he still trusted in God’s mercy.

Why Persecution Happens

Jesus told us clearly: “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you” (John 15:18 KJV). Darkness always fights against the light of Christ. When we follow Jesus, we should expect some form of persecution—whether it is rejection, mocking, or even violence.

But persecution also proves something: our faith is real. Paul said, “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12 KJV).

Hope in Suffering

Even though Christians face danger, God’s Word gives us hope:

  • Matthew 5:10–11 (KJV): “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

  • Romans 8:18 (KJV): “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

The blood of martyrs and the prayers of suffering saints are not forgotten. God is keeping record, and His justice will be perfect.

Encouragement

For our brothers and sisters in Nigeria, Ukraine, China, and the Middle East: we stand with you in prayer. Your faith inspires the whole church worldwide. You remind us that following Christ is not about comfort but about eternal life.

Let us pray for them and also prepare our own hearts. One day, all tears will be wiped away, and Christ will reign forever in peace and justice.
