ePrayer Room: “Why You Should Always Lock Your Doors: Lessons from the Bible on Safety and Wisdom”

In today’s world, crime is on the rise. Yet, some people still don’t lock their doors and still leave valuables in plain sight. This behavior can be puzzling. Understanding why can help us make better choices to protect ourselves.

People might not lock their doors for several reasons. A person can be in a hurry. Some believe their neighborhood is safe and crime won’t happen to them. Others might be forgetful and not aware of what they are doing or not doing or feel overly trusting. Some think that locking up is a sign of fear which they want to avoid.

The Bible teaches us about wisdom and taking steps to protect ourselves. In the book of Proverbs, we read, “A prudent man fore sees the evil, and hides himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished” (Proverbs 22:3 KJV). This verse tells us to be careful and take action to avoid trouble.

The story of Nehemiah gives us a clear example. Nehemiah was a leader who helped rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. He knew that leaving the city unprotected was dangerous. So, he made sure the gates were locked and guarded (Nehemiah 7:3 KJV). By doing this, he kept the city safe from harm.

Another scripture, Proverbs 4:23 KJV, says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life”. Just as we lock our doors to protect our homes, we must guard our hearts to keep out negative influences.

In conclusion, locking our doors and taking care of our belongings is not just about safety. It’s about being wise and protecting what God has given us.  Pray the ePrayer below on safety. Remember, “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord” (Proverbs 21:31 KJV). Let’s be prudent and take the necessary steps to keep our lives and hearts secure.

Reflective Question: What steps can you take today to better protect your home and heart from potential harm?

ePrayer to Pray for Safety

Heavenly Father, as we go about our daily lives,

we seek Your protection and guidance.

Just as it is written in Psalm 121:7-8,

“The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil:

he shall preserve thy soul.

The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in

from this time forth,

and even for evermore.”

Lord, keep us safe from harm,

order our steps,  and shake the evil out of the day

and surround us with Your divine protection. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
