Embarking on a spiritual journey through fasting involves more than just abstaining from food; it requires aligning our actions with God’s will. According to Isaiah 58:6-10 KJV, true fasting encompasses obeying God, refraining from judgment, promoting peace, speaking sincerely, and extending a helping hand to the less fortunate, all to hear God say, “Here I am.

The below passage is the original King James Version, below is an explanation of the verse.

Reflection:  How can you apply the principles of Isaiah 58:6-10 in your own life during times of fasting, ensuring your actions align with God’s will and invite His presence to say, “Here I am”?

Isaiah 58:6-10  KJV   6Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? 7Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? 8Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy reward. 9Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; 10And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:

Fasting is more than just skipping meals; it’s about doing what God wants. Isaiah 58:6-10 in the Bible tells us how to make our fasting meaningful to God. When we fast, God wants us to be kind, fair, and caring.

The verse says we shouldn’t point fingers at others, meaning we shouldn’t blame or judge them. Instead, we should be understanding and help each other. When we do that, God notices and says, “Here I am,” showing that He likes what we’re doing.

Strife means fighting or arguing, and the verse tells us not to do that during fasting. Instead, we should try to make peace and solve problems. When we avoid arguments, God sees it, and He’s happy to be close to us.

Speaking vanity means saying things that don’t matter or aren’t true. When we fast, we should use our words to be kind and truthful. God appreciates when we speak nicely, and when we do, He says, “Here I am.”

Denying the poor means not helping those who don’t have much. The verse reminds us that we should share with others, especially those who need it most. When we care for the poor during fasting, God notices and says, “Here I am,” showing that He approves of our actions.

In conclusion, fasting is not just about not eating; it’s about doing what God likes. Following Isaiah 58:6-10 means being kind, avoiding fights, using good words, and helping those who need it. When we do these things during fasting, God is happy with us and says, “Here I am,” showing that He is close to us.
