Daily Word: Different Does Not Mean Wrong: Remember, Even Jesus Did Not Fit the Mold
It’s easy to feel out of place when you don’t fit into others’ expectations. But being different does not mean being wrong. The Bible is full of examples of people who stood out because they followed God’s path, not the world’s. Even Jesus didn’t fit the mold of what people expected, and He is the greatest example of why being different is part of God’s plan.
1. Jesus: The Savior People Didn’t Expect
When Jesus came to earth, many people thought the Messiah would be a warrior king who would overthrow Rome. Instead, Jesus was born in a manger and came as a servant (Luke 2:11-12 KJV). He healed the sick, forgave sins, and preached love instead of violence. Isaiah 55:8-9 KJV reminds us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.” Jesus’ ways didn’t fit human expectations, but His difference brought salvation to the world.
2. David: The Unlikely King
David was the youngest of his brothers, a shepherd boy who didn’t look like a king. Yet, God chose him to lead Israel. When Samuel anointed David, God said, “For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7 KJV). David’s differences were part of God’s plan to show His power through someone unexpected.
3. Esther: Courage in a Foreign Land
Esther was a Jewish woman in a Persian palace. She didn’t fit the mold of a queen, yet God used her to save His people. Her courage and faithfulness remind us that our differences can serve God’s purpose. As Esther 4:14 KJV says, “Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
God often works through people who seem different or unlikely. Instead of trying to fit in, trust God’s design for your life. Like Jesus, David, and Esther, your uniqueness is part of His plan. Ask yourself today: How can I embrace being different to glorify God?
