Proverbs 3:26 (KJV) says, “For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”

Confidence is not simply believing in yourself. True confidence comes from knowing God and His Word. Proverbs 3:26 (KJV) says, “For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.” This means that God Himself is the foundation of our security. When we know His Word, we walk in wisdom, and wisdom protects us from many dangers.

The Value of Wisdom

Proverbs 3:13-16 (KJV) teaches us that wisdom is more valuable than silver, gold, or rubies. Wisdom gives long life, riches, and honor.

13Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. 14For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. 15She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. 16Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. 17Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

These blessings are not just about money, but about peace of mind, health, and favor with God and people. The Lord even founded the earth by wisdom (Proverbs 3:19 KJV). If wisdom was strong enough to build the world, it is surely strong enough to guide our daily lives.

Why Knowledge Matters

Hosea 4:6 KJV warns, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Without God’s truth, people fall into traps, make poor choices, and suffer loss. But when we know God’s Word, we are protected. The Bible becomes a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. We have to speak the word into our lives to unblock any hinderances. You must study the word of God to know what to say.  See the 45 days to learn the Gospel Challenge. Many people argue about the bible because they have not read it.    In addition, learning the word of God enables you to know if a spiritual leader is a person you should be in agreement with.

Matthew 22:29  KJV  “Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

Trusting in God, Not Ourselves

Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV  tells us to “trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Human wisdom alone is not enough. God’s Word teaches us to acknowledge Him in all our ways, and in return, He directs our paths.

Asking God for Wisdom

The best news is that wisdom is available to everyone. James 1:5 KJV  promises that if anyone lacks wisdom, we can ask God, and He will give it freely. He does not hold back or criticize us for asking.  If you are under-educated or do not know what to do – maybe you have a memory problem or suffer from periodic confusion.  Ask God to help you with that.  While praying ask for wisdom and knowledge that your path may be directed.

Real-World Example

A young college student was unsure of which career path to take. Instead of rushing, she prayed daily and studied the Bible for guidance. Proverbs 3:5–6 KJV reminded her not to lean on her own understanding. In time, doors opened for her to enter teaching — a career that matched both her skills and her heart. Because she sought wisdom from God, she walked in confidence rather than fear. “Many people go to college, graduate, and then realize they don’t even like the field they studied.”

Bible Example

King Solomon is a powerful example of confidence through wisdom. When God appeared to Solomon and asked what he desired, Solomon did not ask for riches or fame but for wisdom to lead God’s people (1 Kings 3:9 KJV). God granted his request and gave him not only wisdom but also wealth and honor. His confidence came not from pride but from the wisdom God gave him.

Reflection Question

Are you leaning on your own understanding, or are you seeking God’s wisdom daily through prayer and reading His Word?
