Bible Verse: One Bad Apple Can Spoil the Whole Bunch Ecclesiastes 9:18 KJV

Scripture Focus: “Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.” — Ecclesiastes 9:18 (KJV)

The Bible is honest about life: one bad choice, one careless voice, or one corrupt person can undo a lot of good. Wisdom builds. Sin tears down. That is why God tells us to be careful about who we listen to, who we follow, and who we allow close to our hearts.

In Ecclesiastes 9:17–18, we learn that quiet wisdom is stronger than loud foolishness. Yet, it only takes one sinner to destroy much good. This verse reminds us that influence matters. Personal responsibility matters. Integrity matters.

Why This Happens

Often, the loudest or most confident person is not the wisest. Sometimes the most unqualified or unstable person pushes their way into leadership through manipulation, charm, or fear. The Bible calls this foolishness. God calls His people to choose wisdom, holiness, and discernment.

 

Three Real-World Examples

1. The Workplace
A team may work hard and honestly, but one dishonest worker can cause mistrust, legal trouble, or loss of jobs for everyone. Years of good work can be undone by one bad decision.

2. The Family
A family may strive for peace, but one person who stirs gossip, anger, or division can break unity. Hurtful words spread faster than healing ones.

3. The Community or Church
A community doing good can be damaged by one leader who lacks character. When pride or secret sin leads, many people are affected, and faith can be shaken.

 

A Bible Story: Achan’s Sin

In Joshua 7 KJV, Israel lost a battle they should have won. Why? One man, Achan, disobeyed God and hid forbidden items. His private sin caused public defeat. One bad act brought harm to the whole nation. This story shows how personal choices affect everyone.

“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” — 1 Corinthians 15:33 (KJV)

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” — Proverbs 13:20 (KJV)

Surround ourselves with holy, wise people

Read and study the Bible regularly

Stay humble and accountable

Choose quiet wisdom over loud foolishness

Holiness protects good work. Wisdom preserves peace. One faithful life can bless many—just as one careless life can harm many.
