Praise Sunday: Aware Worship – Cry Out (Featuring Tinika Wyatt) Aware Worship 208K subscribers Subscribe
Luke 19 describes Jesus’ “Triumphal Entry” into Jerusalem, but it highlights a poignant contrast between public celebration and personal sorrow. He declares if the people stop praising him. He will make the rocks cry out and praise him. The song “Cry Out” sings of not allowing a rock cry out for them. They will praise the Lord. Will you praise the Lord, or will a rock cry (praise the Lord) out for you?
Luke 19: 37-44 KJV 37And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; 38Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. 39And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.
40And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. 41And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, 42Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. 43For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
Here is a brief summary of the key movements in these verses:
1. The Celebration (Verses 37–38)
As Jesus descends the Mount of Olives toward Jerusalem, his disciples and a massive crowd begin a loud, joyous celebration. They praise God for the “mighty works” they have witnessed, hailing Jesus as the King coming in the name of the Lord. Their cries focus on peace in heaven and glory in the highest.
2. The Pharisee’s Rebuke & Jesus’ Response (Verses 39–40)
The Pharisees, uncomfortable with the Messianic titles being used, ask Jesus to silence his followers. Jesus responds with a famous metaphor: the praise is so necessary and divinely ordained that if the people were silent, the “stones would immediately cry out.”
3. The Lament and Prophecy (Verses 41–44)
The tone shifts abruptly from joy to grief. As Jesus looks at the city of Jerusalem, he weeps over it. He mourns that the people did not recognize the “things which belong unto thy peace”—meaning they rejected the spiritual peace he offered.
Because of this spiritual blindness, Jesus delivers a chilling prophecy of the city’s physical destruction:
-
Enemies will surround the city with a trench (siege).
-
The city will be hemmed in on every side.
-
This was a direct foreshadowing of the Roman Siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD.
LYRICS:
[Verse]
I can’t deny what You’ve done for me
Loosed all my shackles and set me free
Robed me and gave me the victory
I got a reason, a reason to praise
I can’t ignore what my eyes have seen
What seemed impossible, I believe
Look at my life, we got history
I got a reason, a reason, to praise
[Chorus]
I won’t let a rock cry out for me
I won’t let a rock cry out for me
I won’t let a rock cry out for me
Never let a rock cry out
I’ll never let a rock cry out for mе

I will not be silent
I’m gonna keep on singing
We will not keep quiet
We’re gonna keep on praisin’
We’re gonna keep on praisin’

We’re gonna keep on singing
