Hello Truth Seekers and Believers,

Starting your day with God is not just a habit—it is protection, wisdom, and peace wrapped together in grace. Long before Jesus made any move, He talked to the Father. The Bible tells us that He “went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God” (Luke 6:12 KJV). If Jesus—our Savior, our example—never made decisions without prayer, how much more should we begin every step with the Lord?

Why God Must Be First

Prayer is where direction becomes clear. Psalm 118:24 KJV reminds us, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Each day comes with new mercy, new grace, and new opportunities—but also unseen dangers. When we talk to God first, we invite His covering over every moment.

As parents, guardians, and leaders, we should not only pray for our children but also pray with them. Teaching a child to talk to God first sets them on a lifelong path of wisdom and safety.  Let’s talk about it.

A Personal Reflection

My daughter wakes up with TikTok before she even gets out of bed. Her phone follows her everywhere—even into the restroom. One day at the bank, I overheard an elderly woman over 70 years old talking to a banker who advised her she could use her cell phone as a collatoral for a small loan. She laughed and said, “I don’t have a two-thousand-dollar phone. I have an Android. A phone don’t mean that much.”

I quietly smiled and thought, Lord, don’t let the young people hear that. To them, a phone is life. My friend later reminded me, “They work from their phones. They create videos, take professional pictures, run businesses…it’s not just a phone anymore.”

Yet with all our screens and technology, nothing replaces waking up with gratitude and speaking to God first. I still pray over every time I get in my car: “Lord, take me and bring me home safetly without accidents, incidents, or being stopped by the police.” Living in Georgia has shown me how necessary that prayer is! A lot of people cannot drive.

I once drove my daughter to school for years—an hour there and an hour back. On her graduation day-last day of school, our very last trip, I was so happy, I forgot to pray before we got in the car. My daugher and I even danced before leaving the house, excited that the long season was over. It had been rough.

On the way, I drove under a yellow light that turned red while I was under it—and got a ticket. The officer was kind, but a ticket is a ticket. My daughter looked at me and said, “We forgot to pray.” And she was right. God has a sense of humor, but He also has a way of reminding us that He comes first.

God Protects When You Put Him First

Another memory takes me back to college. I was away from home for the first time—excited, nervous, grown but not quite wise. Every morning, before I even uncovered my feet or let them touch the floor, I would thank God for a new day and say the Lord’s Prayer Psalm 23 KJV. I did not realize then how many dangers God blocked because I talked to Him first.

There were parties, invitations, and “opportunities” that looked golden. Recruiters would approach young women including myself at malls promising entry into professional athlete’s parties. Somehow, when it was time to go to the party within hours, I always missed out being late or forgot about it and was not there when they came for me.  Later, I heard the stories—drugs, danger, and one girl who never made it home-drug overdose. God made my crooked roads straight because I sought Him before seeking anything else.

Scriptures for Strength

“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” — Proverbs 3:6 (KJV)

Proverbs 3:6 (KJV)    3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.  5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”” — Psalm 37:23 (KJV)

A Bible Example: Jesus Set the Pattern

Before choosing the disciples, Jesus prayed all night. Before feeding the 5,000, He blessed the food. Before facing the cross, He prayed in Gethsemane. His life teaches us one unchanging truth: Talk to the Father before you talk to anyone else.

Final Thought

Putting God first does not remove all challenges—but it positions you under His covering. Your day will start differently. Your decisions will become wiser. And your path will grow straighter.

Let your first conversation each morning be with the Lord. He is waiting, and He already has the answers.
