What is Lent? Lent is a 40-day period of reflection, repentance, and preparation leading up to Easter. It commemorates the 40 days and nights Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness, where He was tempted by Satan (Matthew 4:1-11 KJV). During this time, believers focus on strengthening their faith through fasting, prayer, praise, and repentance.

How is Lent Celebrated? The 5 main ways people engage in Lent are:
Fasting – Abstaining from something (food, habits, entertainment) to focus more on God. Joel 2:12 – Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:
Prayer – Spending dedicated time in prayer and reflection. Philippians 4:6 – Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Repentance – Acts 3:19 KJV “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;”
Reading the Word (Bible) – Matthew 22:29 KJV “Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err (mistaken), not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”
Praise God with song – Psalms 150:6 KJV “Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”
The Purpose of Lent. Lent is not about feeling shame but acknowledging sin and recognizing how it separates us from God. It is a time to seek God’s grace, strengthen our spiritual discipline, and remember Christ’s sacrifice that redeemed us from sin and death.
