What Is Revival?
Revival is a spiritual awakening for a person, family, city, or nation.
It begins when people become tired of fear, sin, confusion, violence, hatred,
and emptiness and sincerely turn back to God through prayer, repentance, worship, love, and obedience.
The Bible shows that revival starts when people humble themselves before God and seek His help.
Across America, many churches hold revival services for several nights during the week, often beginning after 6 PM.
People gather for worship, preaching, testimonies, choirs, and prayer because life can leave people burdened, discouraged, lonely, or spiritually drained.
Some stay late at the altar crying, praying, thanking God, or asking Him to restore their families, minds, health, and direction.
Revival is not always inside church walls.

Believers have gathered in streets, parks, stadiums, and neighborhoods praying publicly, singing praises, and asking God to heal their communities.
When revival comes, hearts begin to change, healings are revealed, People forgive more easily.
Families reconnect. Wars and conflict end. Communities unite.
Some people leave behind addictions, violence, or destructive lifestyles.
Revival reminds people that God still heals, restores, forgives, protects, and gives hope during troubled times.
Scriptures
Jesus taught people to repent and turn back to God. He preached about the Kingdom of God, forgiveness, love, and spiritual rebirth.
Jesus said:
“And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”. — Mark 1:15 KJV
Jesus also warned cities that rejected truth and refused to repent.
“Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida!” — Matthew 11:21 KJV
This shows that revival is not only personal. Whole cities and regions can either accept or reject God’s truth.
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” — Matthew 5:9 KJV
Bible Story: Jonah and the City of Nineveh
One great revival story is found in the book of Jonah.
God sent Jonah to warn the city of Nineveh to repent and turn to God because of its wickedness.
At first Jonah ran away because the people were rich and evil and did not want them to repent,
God threw Jonah in the belly of a whale. Jonah repented and called out to God and came out of the whale.
Jonah obeyed God and preached to the people.
The people of Nineveh believed the message of God. They fasted, prayed, humbled themselves, and turned away from evil. Even the king repented.
Because the people repented, God showed mercy and did not destroy the city. This story shows that revival can change an entire city when people turn back to God.
It also demonstrates that God gives grace and sends help to turn his people back to him even when they do not deserve it.

Real-Life Example of Revival
Another powerful modern example of revival and public prayer happened in Atlanta when violence, fear, protests, robberies, shootings, and social unrest deeply troubled the city.
During that season, many ministers, churches, prayer leaders, and community members gathered publicly in the streets to pray for healing, peace, unity, and protection over Atlanta.
Bernice King, following in the spiritual and nonviolent legacy of her father, became one of the voices calling people back to prayer, reconciliation, and healing.
Prayer gatherings were held outdoors with pastors, worship leaders, and believers praying over neighborhoods, families, police officers, businesses, and young people.
Some events included public worship music, scripture reading, peaceful marches, and prayer circles in downtown areas and community spaces.
Ministers spoke about spiritual darkness, hatred, violence, hopelessness, and the need for moral and spiritual renewal in the city.
One widely shared public call came after violent incidents in Atlanta, where Bernice King urged people to “Pray for Atlanta” and called for healing and nonviolence.
She later wrote publicly about Atlanta needing healing, justice, peace, and “The Beloved Community,” echoing the vision of her father, Martin Luther King Jr..
During some of these prayer movements, ministers and believers gathered in the streets much like older revival movements in America.
People sang gospel songs, prayed through microphones, laid hands on one another, and asked God to protect the city from violence, division, hatred, and spiritual confusion.
In many ways, these gatherings reflected the same spirit seen during historical American revivals where communities came together publicly seeking God’s mercy.
This reminds many believers that revival is not only inside church buildings.
One scripture that directly uses the word “revive” says:
“Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?” — Psalm 85:6 KJV
Another says:
“Quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.” — Psalm 80:18 KJV
And one of the most quoted revival scriptures in America remains:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways;
then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” — 2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV

Romans 10:9-109That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
John 3:5-65Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7
